Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Hillside Racecourse 20/09/23

Racing returns to Sandown Hillside this Wednesday for a great card of midweek racing as the Group 1 races season is in full tilt and we subsequently see a lot of horses who are progressing towards big Saturday grade racing as well as a couple who are coming back from that level and we have two maiden races to kick off the card followed by racing in mixed benchmark grade. I am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below as I outline my best betting spots on the card!

BEST BET - #4 - American Zombie (NEXT BEST)
American Zombie looks well placed here for the Sadler stable at just his second career start for the stable. He’s coming off the back of a long twenty seven week spell after debuting at this track and trip where he boxed along the speed nicely before blasting away from them for a good win. No public trials to go by but his times read the best in the field from that start and I assume he will shape up here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Hedged 
Odds on favourite looks dangerous here in Hedged who has had the three career starts and has been impressive thus far. He picked up a win at Seymour two back before stepping out in Saturday grade two weeks ago at Caulfield where he ran well to finish just behind the placegetters in not the easiest of runs. He comes back to this level now, for what I assume is a ratings boosting win and he looks well placed to get it here.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Mantua 
Mantua looks dangerous in this field for Maher and Eustace and I think he will shape right up here for the stable. He’s taken a few runs to get going this prep but has really clicked up in his last effort where he stepped out over this distance at Bendigo and belted a nothing field but the way he did it and the time he clocked both read very well for this assignment. Hard fit now, top jockey on and a nice gate.

BEST BET - #7 - Truffle Finder (BEST BET)
Truffle Finder rates as the top seed for this race and he rates in front by a decent margin. He’s had just the two career starts for Chris Mcdonald but has been super impressive in those two starts. He debuted on the Pakenham Synthetic where he ran a super close second placing before stepping out on the turf at Pakenham again where he ran as a short priced favourite and saluted dominantly there. He has looked very sharp in the lead up trial for his return and looks well placed here to win first up.

THE DANGER - #1 - Boldinho
Boldinho is a very smart animal for Maher and Eustace who doesn’t win out of turn but looks very strong in this field and has been running very well lately. He came off a four week break from racing two back on the Lakeside course here over this distance where he beat all but the winner in a luckless run. He then stepped out over this track / distance where he jumped awkwardly but he recovered well to eventually be in a good spot on the turn and powered home into second again. He looks well placed to take this out.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Little Miss Gutsaa 
Little Miss Gutsaa looks suited here for the Edwards stable to win second up and has a good second up record in four career preps. He resumed off of a 20 week spell at Geelong over this distance where he looked to need the run and he was strong through the line in a bunched finish but now steps out fitter and better for that run and maps to get a decent run in transit. Keen to see how he goes here.

BEST BET - #6 - Glitzing
Glitzing has been having an incredibly successful debut preparation for Damien O’Brien and looks well placed to win again here. He’s had five runs for the b to kick off his career and has already made three of those starts winning ones. He has been racing mostly at Moe and other provincial tracks but off the back of his 1200m win at Geelong last time out he looks ready for a step up to this grade.

THE DANGER - #12 - Discerning
Discerning is a smart horse for the Snowden’s who looks well placed in this field now approaching peak fitness. He generally takes a few runs to get going but looks to have clicked up in his last outting where he ran at this track and trip two weeks ago and chased hard to the line from out wide when strong through the line. With any more luck in transit this time he will undoubtedly be in the finish.

VALUE BET - #9 - Aiming (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Aiming is a smart horse for the Maher and Eustace stable that resumes here and hasn’t given us any reason to doubt him thus far so I think that he needs to be treated with respect here. He only had the three career starts but made the debut and second up run both winning ones before an end of prep run and being sent away for a spell. He now comes back to race off a sharp trial two weeks ago, from a good draw and with a claim from Hefel I think he is a genuine winning threat and over the odds here.
