Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Hillside Racecourse 22/11/23

Racing returns to Sandown Hillside this Wednesday for a great card of midweek racing as the Group 1 races season is in full tilt and we subsequently see a lot of horses who are progressing towards big Saturday grade racing as well as a couple who are coming back from that level and we have a maiden race to kick off the card followed by racing in high level mixed benchmark grade. I am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below as I outline my best betting spots on the card!

#3 - Platinum Field - $6.00

BEST BET - #8 - Elba (NEXT BEST)
Elba looks well placed here for Anthony and Sam Freedman after going so close in three runs to kick his career off. He’s had two this time in back from a 20 week spell and his most recent of which was a very smart runner up placing where he did things tough out wide but still found plenty in the straight to come on into the placings there.

THE DANGER - #3 - Platinum Field
Platinum Field is a sharp horse for Maher and Eustace who has only had the two career starts but has improved sharply between them and now comes into this third up and ready to fire. His first run came at Ballarat where he ran well to finish midfield before coming off of a 4 week break last time out at Moonee Valley where he sharply improved into the placings there. I think that now under Allen’s steering he will be very sharp and hard fit third up.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Cumin Spinner
Cumin Spinner should be improving sharply between runs here after resuming from a 22 week spell at Kyneton where he was held up from the 400m mark until the 200m mark and fired hard to the line and just got unlucky right on the line when finishing 2nd to a smart horse who got the better run there. He will be sharper here second up and better for that run now.

BEST BET - #3 - Alectrona
Alectrona hasn’t put in a bad run in his three runs this time in for the McEvoy’s. The first two runs saw him clock very close runner up placings at Ballarat before stepping out to Bendigo last time where he ran as an odds on favourite and blitzed the clock over this distance to win very well. He’s hard fit, flying and I think this is his prime distance. Only goes well here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Serasana
Serasana can hit back hard here off the back of a luckless run last time out at Caulfield where he was forced deep in the run and then was blocked in the straight when he looked to come on when finishing near the tail of the field. His first up run was very sharp however when running into the placings well at this course and now comes into this third up and presents as an honest threat in this field.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Mauricio (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Mauricio has been flying this past prep and has had three runs this time in and now looks to be at his peak after winning last time out. He clocked two close placings at Ballarat and Mornington before stepping out at Kyneton last time out where he ran as a short priced favourite and whilst he didn’t beat all that much there in terms of class, the style in which he took that out was ever so impressive. Well placed here.

BEST BET - #4 - Tewkesbury (BEST BET)
Tewkesbury resumed off of a 30 week spell at Ballarat last time out over this distance and given the long break and running first up at this distance I think that the effort he produced was extremely impressive. He boxed along the speed very well there to place third there behind some smart horses. He should be much improved now stepping out here second up and I think only runs well.

THE DANGER - #1 - Northern Barrage  
Northern Barrage resumes for just his second prep at the races and ran very well when last fresh, motoring home into second place behind a smart horse and I think despite the fact he resumes over this big distance, the booking and claim of Billy Pinn and the amount of respect he’s garnered from the market has to be noted here. Not the one for my money, but noting him as a key threat.

VALUE BET - #2 - Unfair Dismissal
Unfair Dismissal looks well placed with the 3kg claim from Tatum Bull coming into this hard fit and off the back of a few sharp placings that he’s put together this prep so far. He last ran a very smart race at Mornington over this trip when coming from behind the speed to jet home and only be beaten by one horse in a smart winner there. Well placed here and I think is a definite winning chance in a wide race.
