Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Hillside Racecourse 27/03/24

Racing comes back to Sandown Hillside this Wednesday for a solid eight race meeting with almost half a million dollars prize money available across the card and I am very keen to get stuck into this card and have picked out my best betting spots and run through them below. There looks to be some very smart horses on the card tomorrow so follow me below!

BEST BET - #7 - Saban (NEXT BEST)
Saban rates very highly off the back of his debut for Peter Moody a couple weeks ago. He stepped out over the 1500m here untrialled two weeks ago and I think it was a brilliant debut when luckless being held up from the 400m to 100m. He should only be improved off of that run and with any more luck in the straight I think he takes this out.

THE DANGER - #5 - Heed The Omens
Heed the Omens had a strong debut two weeks ago at Cranbourne where he jumped well and set just behind the leaders before improving into the straight and giving a solid kick to only find one better in the straight to a horse that had the fitness edge on him. He will be improved for that run and should be strong here under Melham’s steering, go well.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Brandnu Deal
Brandnu Deal steps out here for his fourth career start and third up this prep for the Richards camp and based on the improvement between runs last time out I think he should again be sharp here. He ran at this course a week ago when chasing solidly the entire straight and only was outkicked in the final 200m by the winner when placing second. They put a space on the rest of the field then so he should be sharp coming into this now off of that effort.

BEST BET - #3 - Rock The Bar (BEST BET)
Rock the Bar has been outstanding in three career starts for Danny O’Brien and I see no reason for him to slow down now after what has already been a hot couple of recent runs. He last stepped out at Pakenham second up and three weeks between runs when blitzing the field, never looking in doubt and winning very well from out front. He should still have upside third up and rates highly here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Gallant Prince
Gallant Prince comes here chasing a hat trick for the Douglas camp and last stepped out off of a 17 week break for the stable where he found the lead early at Pakenham from out wide as a long odds chance and was just too tough from out front, never letting go of the lead despite being challenged in the straight. That was an incredibly impressive win and whilst he strikes a good test here I would say he’s up to it off of that effort.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Biden Time
Biden Time has only had the two career starts for the Richards camp but has looked very sharp in both and can get another win on board here. He broke maiden at the beginning of the month here when second up and working through the run to join the lead at the 200m before powering away from them at the 100m. He should still have upside third up here and hard fit he can run a good race.

BEST BET - #6 - Sunshineinmypocket
Two starts for two wins makes Sunshineinmypocket a very tough horse to get past here for Ciaron Maher. He last stepped out three weeks between runs at this course when being held up from the 500m-300m before getting a split and capitalising to do things tough out wide and get the upper hand in the final 25m. He appeared to be looking for longer and gets that now third up with more improvement, he’s just a tad short for my liking but I understand why.

THE DANGER - #1 - Blow In (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
I think that Blow In presents as the main danger to the favourite in this race since coming across to Phillip Stokes. He has had just the one run since changing stables when stepping out off of a 17 week break at Flemington at the beginning of the month and flying home from last place to finish fourth, recording some very impressive splits. I think he will settle much closer in the run in the smaller field and down in grade and he will be the strongest late here.

VALUE BET - #2 - Intrepid Eagle
Intrepid Eagle has always been a horse I am willing to entertain for the McEvoy’s and he steps out here second up after returning to racing off of a short 6 week let up two weeks back at Caulfield Heath where he got a luckless run from the pain barrier but still ran on very well and was strong through the line when finishing fourth. He draws a better gate and overall gets set up a lot better for this and is a second up winner in the past so watch what the market does with him.
