Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Hillside Racecourse 28/02/24

Racing comes back to Sandown Hillside this Wednesday for a solid eight race meeting with almost half a million dollars prize money available across the card and I am very keen to get stuck into this card and have picked out my best betting spots and run through them below. There looks to be some very smart horses on the card tomorrow so follow me below!

BEST BET - #x -4 - Jammin Jimmy (BEST BET) 
A race in two from what it looks like to kick things off down in Victoria and I am tempted to stick with this smart four year old for the Freedman’s who made his debut at the races three weeks ago at this course on the Lakeside portion where he came from three deep and chased hard all through the run to only find one better in the straight in what was a very brave effort on debut off of a tough run. Gets an extra 100m in trip now, should have a bit more luck in running and with natural improvement will prove hard to beat.

THE DANGER - #6 - Vail Mountain 
Vail Mountain looks like the main danger for the Hayes boys coming here for his third career start and having placed in both of his career kick off runs thus far. He last stepped out over the 1200m at Pakenham where he came from behind the speed at the top of the straight and powered home strongly from the 200m but was just found late by another sharp horse. He shapes up well off the back of that and third up, hard fit now.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Umetini
Umetini is the only other real chance for me outside of the two favourites here. He comes back from a very long 49 week spell for Ciaron Maher here and comes back untrialled but I think there’s a fair bit of intent given that Shinn has been booked for the ride and that he was scratched from another race for this assignment. He showed some talent in his last run at this course before the long spell so don’t discount him.

BEST BET - #2 - Et Tu Brute
Et Tu Brute is hard to ignore in what looks like a race he has been placed in for a ratings boosting win and I am keen to see how he goes here. He resumed from an 18 week spell for Anthony and Sam Freedman at this course on the Lakeside portion of the track where he bolted in dominantly and looked above this grade before last stepping out at Flemington in Saturday racing company and making good ground into midfield off of a tough run out wide. He shapes up very well coming back in depth now, hard fit third up and should belt these with even luck.

THE DANGER - #5 - Harley'n'rose
I have to give respect to any horse that gets the booking of Shinn and this particular guy has been running very well this time in for Richards & Moyle. His most recent two runs have come at Morphettville where he’s booted up in the straight in each to come from behind the speed and power home into the placings. If he’s ridden with a bit more vigour earlier I think he can prove even more dangerous. Shinn’s steering could be the key to him.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Into You (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Hard to knock Into You for the Keating stable off the back of two runs to kick his career off where he has hardly put a foot wrong in either. His debut run saw him run home very well into the placings over the 1300m at this course before stepping out three weeks between runs at Ballarat and despite laying in in the straight he drew clear of them well in the last 200m to win very nicely. Should have further progression third up and shapes up well here.

BEST BET - #6 - Haaland (NEXT BEST)
I think this is a very sneaky spot for Haaland here to pick up his third win at his ninth career start off the back of a bunch of sharp runs this campaign but specifically after the way he ran last time out. He was 1800m out to 2200m when running at Bendigo last time where he found the front at the 200m and kicked away, never being in doubt when strong through the line and now looks set to peak out to this distance. Very well placed.

THE DANGER - #3 - Speranzoso
Speranzoso is a very smart imported stayer for the Douglas camp that comes here in form and out of a Saturday grade race so I can understand why he is the favourite here. He stepped out at Caulfield about a month ago over this trip where he joined the leaders at the 300m before storming away at the 150m for a soft win. Rates highly off the back of that run but just a bit too short for mine.

VALUE BET - #4 - Adonis Kick
We had Adonis Kick last time out when he raced at Sale over the 2200m just over a week ago and he got the money in strong fashion after taking a step back in grade for that run. He now comes here revved up, in form and with a 3kg claim from Clarke. I think that he is one for the multiples at a nice price.

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse. As a result, horses drawn on the inside have a better chance of performing well compared to those drawn towards the outside.
