Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Hillside Racecourse 30/08/23

Big midweek racing comes to Sandown Hillside this Wednesday as the Group 1 racing season is well underway and I am keen on a bunch of these competitive races but also think that the top Victorian stables have some astutely placed runners who look standout bets in these fields as horses gear up for big Spring’s and I think we shouldn’t delay getting stuck into this half a million dollar Metro midweek meeting so follow me below as I outline my best betting spots of the day!

BEST BET - #7 - Global Pivot (NEXT BEST)
I think Global Pivot looks pretty well placed here for the Waterhouse / Bott giants and can make it two in a row in what looks like a beatable field here. He was third up when stepping out at Bendigo last time out where he sped over to lead and held them off to win decently but the runner up in that race was lame so he clearly really didn’t beat much. However, the times were solid, he’s just hitting his peak now and the way the stable is going I wouldn’t be surprised to see him run a much improved race off that solid win.

THE DANGER - #1 - Chill The Krug 
Chill The Krug is a very solid fresh horse and might be able to claim this, the 1400m first up run certainly suggests some level of intent as he does his best work in this distance range. He’s got a win and close second at this distance, with the second being at this course and has only been out of the placings in one of his give starts and now comes back from a 17 week spell, likely rearing to go for the Busuttin / Young stable. My advice is watch how he looks in the yard and go from there.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Enna's Dream
Can’t knock winning form and Enna’s Dream steps into town now after just two career starts where she debuted at Bendigo and showed good fight there to chase well into fourth behind the smart / progressive Pivot City before stepping out over 200m dearer than this at Bairnsdale where she wound up on the outside from the top of the straight and stormed away in the last 150m to win well. She should still have plenty of upside only third up now and I think she deserves a crack at these.

BEST BET - #5 - Struck Gold (BEST BET)  
Struck Gold looks like a good thing going for Anthony and Sam Freedman and I think he rates a fair bit in front of these. He’s had just the three career starts and has been flying in all of them and now has earned his crack in town after a bunch of sharp provincial runs. The latest of which saw him knuckle at the start at Seymour before showing his class to improve all run and join the lead at the 250m and then fight hard until the line but was unable to go on with the winner who had a much softer run when second. He will be right to go off that effort and should get a much more economical run this time in.

THE DANGER - #2 - Baroque Road 
Baroque Road looks to have hit great form for the Maher and Eustace giants and can keep that winning form into this assignment. He stepped out to this distance a couple weeks ago at Geelong when speeding over from a wide gate to lead and finding plenty under pressure to kick strongly through the line when challenged. They didn’t go all that fast that day but he seems a smart type that matches the assignment in front of them and wil give a sight here I am confident.

VALUE BET  - #11 - Coast Princess
Always a fan of the runner that the Hayes boys sent forward at the midweeks and the lightly raced Coast Princess looks to have a touch of quality about her. She resumes here off of a 22 week spell and already got the maiden win out the way second up in her career before racing in a tough Saturday grade contest. No public trials for this but the booking of Mick Dee signals some level of intent. Keen to see how she goes.

BEST BET - #1 - Electric Belle
Pretty open contest here but I think that the Rae trained Electric Belle looks like one of the best if not best chances in this field and should be in this for a long way off the back of her last start effort three weeks ago at The Valley. She ran this trip there when improving from four deep and powering home out wide when he was ever impressive from the back, which is very difficult to do at that course. She will retain fitness from that, draws a good gate and onto a fairer track and with the claim from Overall gets in well weighted.

THE DANGER - #4 - Delicious Tycoon 
Delicious Tycoon drops back in depth here after two impressive Saturday grade runs and as long as there is petrol in the tank I think he can easily get the job done here. He won at Flemington over the mile two back when speeding out to lead and just holding on late when fighting hard to the line before racing at The Valley last time out where he was on pace and strong all run but just peaked at the 100m. He appears to still have more to offer and should be dangerous amongst these.

VALUE BET - #5 - Rick's Cafe (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Pretty keen on the chances of Rick’s Cafe here who is a proven second up winner and comes into this off the back of resuming off of a long 34 week spell when he stepped out, being thrown into the deep end, at the beginning of the month at Flemington and chased nicely for a return from such a lengthy spell. He’s two from three second up, gets the booking of Hefel for this assignment and draws a nice gate. All signs point towards good things and I have a sneaky feeling about him. Keen.
