Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Lakeside Racecourse 05/07/23

We have a bumper eight race card set for Sandown Lakeside tomorrow and we should see some very nice types from the top Victorian and out of state stables either making their debuts or early into their preps who look towards big winter seasons. The majority of the races are in sprint - mid distance ranges which is always exciting and a bunch of these races will be contested in BM70 grade which makes them honest contests. I have outlined my best betting spots on the card so follow me below!

Sandown Lakeside R1 - Renew Your Mrc Membership Mdn (1200m)

Selections:
#7 - Golden Estrella (NEXT BEST)  - $3.80
#3 - Ortega - $2.80
#11 - Refreshing - $5.50
#1 - Catch A Break - $23.00

BEST BET - #7 - Golden Estrella  (NEXT BEST)
Golden Estrella looks very well placed here for the Maher and Eustace stable and will likely have the market backing come the jump that we won’t see this price on her. We get a soft track tomorrow and all of jer jump outs have been in the heavy where she has moved nicely along in all of them. She was an expensive yearling at the Magic Millions sale costing $625,000 and I think that she only goes well here under Melham’s steering.

THE DANGER - #3 - Ortega
Ortega looks the safest option as he is one of the few with runs on the board and also comes back to race at a country level here after resuming from a long 20 week spell at Caulfield a few weekends ago under Wiremu Pinn’s steering. She jumped awkwardly there and set last but came on strongly towards the end of the race and wasn’t disgraced there. Pinn sticks, will be better for the run and I think she goes close, just a bit too short for me.

VALUE BET  - #11 - Refreshing
Refreshing has had just the five runs for the Moroney stable and resumed off a 14 week spell last time out when first up at Werribee Park where she was slowly away but kept improving throughout the run to eventually end up fourth there. You would think he has plenty to offer second up off that effort and I can’t see him going badly here. Go close.

Sandown Lakeside R2 - Tile Importer (Bm70) (2100m)

Selections:
#1 - Glamdam  - $6.00
#2 - Botany - $4.00
#3 - Vivacious Award (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $11.00
#4 - Hard Squeeze - $6.00

BEST BET - #1 - Glamdam
I am looking for a bit of value in what looks like a very strong staying race with a few key exceptional runners. Almost all of the runners in this come off a top two finish last time out and all are looking for these distances however the Busittin / Young trained Glamdam looks the best chance for me and set to peak fourth up here, hard fit an in form after winning over the mile here in good time and an exceptional run, charging home after only winding up late from out wide. Her run style suits that of a true stayer and I think she should go very well.

THE DANGER - #2 - Botany
The Peter Moody trained Botany does look well placed to record another win in just her eleven career starts for the stable and has been working up to a staying contest like this with her last few runs this time in. She has a bunch of recent runs at this track but two back she raced here over the mile when setting towards the rear of the field and coming on strongly at the end to finish fourth but clearly looking for longer. She got that last time out when racing at Mornington over the 2025m and battled on steadily to the line but found one better in Sky Horse who has a touch of class about her herself. Tough to beat.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Vivacious Award (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Vivacious Award has done little wrong this time in the Preusker stable and has been recording times and running in a way that is definitely good enough to take this out. He raced two back at Bendigo in the mud over the Mile and found the line very nicely after dawdling at the start to finish third when the vet said he had a couple issues. He then went out at Geelong two weeks back over the 1750m where he held ground until the last 200m before shifting out and powering over them for a big win at odds. I am tempted to say that win wasn’t a fluke but we will find out tomorrow.

Sandown Lakeside R5 - Ladbrokes Yard Comments (Bm78) (1200m)

Selections:
#3 - Do Ya Punk (BEST BET) - $4.50
#10 - Trading Post  - $5.50
#1 - The Gauch - $11.00
#2 - Crestani - $11.00

BEST BET - #3 - Do Ya Punk (BEST BET)
Strongest contest of the day and I am keen to be in the corner of the Peter Moody trained Do Ya Punk who has had a four run prep this time in with patient breaks between runs to retain fitness but also be able to recover and she looks to be putting things all together in her last couple. Her most recent run came here on the Lakeside track three weeks ago where she chased hard from out wide all run to end up third. She drops back 100m in trip now which doesn’t hurt her chances at all, is free running and I trust Stockdale to be able to find a good spot for her.

THE DANGER - #10 - Trading Post
Trading Post is a very nice six year old for Cliff Brown who is having a fantastic prep this time in and overall has been very solid, having placed or won more races than he’s been out of the finish for. He resumed off a 15 week spell two back when joining the lead at the 300m at Pakenham and fighting hard to the line to come second in a big return to racing and then, with the writing on the wall, stayed at the track and trip (1200m) and saluted well from out wide to get the money in the last 30m. He should be at just about peak now and I like him at this course with the claim from Pinn he’ll be flying with no weight on his back. Go close.

VALUE BET - #1 - The Gauch
No knock on The Gauch who historically has been contesting some far stronger races than this and who is also good second up historically. He changed hands from the Moody stable to the Noonan stable earlier this year before resuming off a very long 47 week spell in Saturday grade here three weeks ago in a BM100 where he finished down the track (albeit with some issues the vet said) behind the likes of Starry Legend and Esta La Roca. Huge step down in competition now, very good second up record, good track record and I am quite keen to see how he goes here.

He has also received the Victoria Racing Club's Champion Jockey Award in two consecutive seasons (2019/20 and 2020/21), underscoring his reputation as one of Victoria's finest jockeys. He is known to perform exceptionally well on major race days, and he has secured a significant number of rides for this weekend's racing at Sandown Lakeside Park Lakeside, I have outlined them all below:

Multi Tips For Sandown Lakeside Racecourse

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse. As a result, horses drawn on the inside have a better chance of performing well compared to those drawn towards the outside. I have factored in this aspect when making my multi bets, taking into account the horses' respective preps and their drawn barrier positions. Follow below for a multi to track over race day!

R5 - #3 - Do Ya Punk - PLC $1.85
R1 - #7 - Golden Estrella - PLC $1.65
R2 - #3 - Vivacious Award - PLC $3.00

Total Odds = $9.15

Best Promotions for Sandown Lakeside Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
