BEST BET - #3 - Do Ya Punk (BEST BET)
Strongest contest of the day and I am keen to be in the corner of the Peter Moody trained Do Ya Punk who has had a four run prep this time in with patient breaks between runs to retain fitness but also be able to recover and she looks to be putting things all together in her last couple. Her most recent run came here on the Lakeside track three weeks ago where she chased hard from out wide all run to end up third. She drops back 100m in trip now which doesn’t hurt her chances at all, is free running and I trust Stockdale to be able to find a good spot for her.
THE DANGER - #10 - Trading Post
Trading Post is a very nice six year old for Cliff Brown who is having a fantastic prep this time in and overall has been very solid, having placed or won more races than he’s been out of the finish for. He resumed off a 15 week spell two back when joining the lead at the 300m at Pakenham and fighting hard to the line to come second in a big return to racing and then, with the writing on the wall, stayed at the track and trip (1200m) and saluted well from out wide to get the money in the last 30m. He should be at just about peak now and I like him at this course with the claim from Pinn he’ll be flying with no weight on his back. Go close.
VALUE BET - #1 - The Gauch
No knock on The Gauch who historically has been contesting some far stronger races than this and who is also good second up historically. He changed hands from the Moody stable to the Noonan stable earlier this year before resuming off a very long 47 week spell in Saturday grade here three weeks ago in a BM100 where he finished down the track (albeit with some issues the vet said) behind the likes of Starry Legend and Esta La Roca. Huge step down in competition now, very good second up record, good track record and I am quite keen to see how he goes here.
