Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Lakeside Racecourse 06/12/23

We have a bumper eight race card set for Sandown Lakeside tomorrow and we should see some very nice types from the top Victorian and out of state stables either making their debuts or early into their preps and some coming back from the huge season we have just had of Group 1 races. The majority of the races are in mid distance ranges which is always exciting, most of these races will be contested in BM70 / BM64 grade. I have outlined my best betting spots on the card so follow me below!

BEST BET - #3 - Glentaneous (BEST BET)
Opening up the betting for the card with Glentaneous who looks like a good bet in the staying race of the card if he can handle the big weight. He does take it on for a reason though and has been running well in his three starts back from a spell and is ready for this trip now. He comes off the back of a run in a 2000m Cranbourne race a couple weeks back where he peaked just a tad late in the run to place runner up there but looks set to peak now fourth up and I think only runs well here.

THE DANGER - #7 - Speranzoso
Speranzoso hasn’t put in a bad run in his outings this time in for the Douglas stable and won at Seymour two back over the 2000m before stepping out in a small field here last time out as favourite over the 2100m where he ran good time after leading the race and still fighting hard to the line to only find one better in Tommy who looks a class animal himself. They put a huge space on the others there and I think he runs well out to this trip.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Sous Les Nuages
Sous Les Nuages takes a big step back in competition for this assignment and I think should run well here as even though he finished near the rear last time out when stepping up to the Country Cup at Caulfield, his rating out of that race was still well above the majority he meets here and the first up win prior to that was sharp. Think he runs well here at a price.

BEST BET - #10 - Valois (NEXT BEST)
I am keen on betting Valois to roll the favourite here for the Brown stable as they come into this pretty much equally rated but with Valois meeting the favourite better at the weights and I think he just gets the right kind of map to win this. He maps to get a trail just behind the speed and before a luckless run at The Valley last time out he was very impressive when winning at Mornington off of a 5 week break. Can hit back hard here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Lang Park 
Patrick Payne and Billy Egan are always a dangerous combination and Lang Park comes back here off of a 10 week break after winning two in a row at Benalla and Cranbourne where he has displayed some very sharp talent in both. I do think he hasn’t beaten much though and I just can’t justify taking him at the price but the recent trial looked sharp and I expect him to feature.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Rylov 
I feel like Rylov promised to be quite the horse when he kicked things off for Peter Moody a few years back and whilst he has put in some good performances in his eight start career he hasn’t totally lived up to the expectations but I do think he has a solid chance of firing here first up as he generally goes well with fresh legs. He comes back from a long spell and has no public trials, when the stable does this they generally have something up their sleeve so watch for him.

BEST BET - #10 - Thunder Award (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
There’s a couple horses I like here but I think Thunder Award is the best of the lot off the back of his debut at Pakenham over the 1200m and I just think his set up looks so ideal for this assignment now based off of that run. He was held up there at a key stage and was forced wider from an already wide position before finding clear air and powering away to win very impressively. He seemed to be looking for longer off that effort and gets that now. Interested to see what they opt to do from gate one as he likes to get back but the run can’t get much tougher than he last had and that was his debut…

THE DANGER - #1 - Call Him Iggy
The favourite, Call Him Iggy is another one who has had just the one career start and who has made it a winning one. He stepped out for the debut at Seymour two weeks ago where he sat two wide outside the leader the trip before clicking up and powering away for a soft win in the straight. He didn’t beat much there but he rates right at the top of this field with some of the others here and natural improvement should carry him well here.

VALUE BET - #2 - Spirit Beast 
Spirit Beast is resuming from a long spell for Anthony & Sam Freedman but I think other than that query he’s going to be strong here. He’s only had the four career starts but has only been unplaced in one and has checked the maiden win off, his recent trial was a sharp piece of work and I think he runs well here.
