Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Lakeside Racecourse 16/08/23

We have a bumper eight race card set for Sandown Lakeside tomorrow and we should see some very nice types from the top Victorian and out of state stables either making their debuts or early into their preps who look towards the huge Spring racing season that kicks off this week! The majority of the races are in mid distance ranges which is always exciting, most of these races will be contested in BM70 / BM64 grade. I have outlined my best betting spots on the card so follow me below!

#1 - Dodgy One (NEXT BEST) - $4.80
#4 - Reservoir Dog - $5.00

#3 - Angel - $4.50

BEST BET - #1 - Dodgy One (NEXT BEST)
Market is seeing this race with a stack of chances but I think that Dodgy one should be price around $3.50 and am keen to take him here to pick up an early win for the Bedggood stable and gets a nice 3kg claim from Lafferty to offset top weight. He’s come runner up over this distance in his last two and has only gone down in the final stride or two in both those runs. He looks to be right at his best now and ready to take out a race at this trip and meets a beatable field.

THE DANGER - #4 - Reservoir Dog 
The Busuttin and Young trained Reservoir dog looks the other leading contender here and is set to make this a race. He found the 2338m at his last start probably a touch out of his distance range as we looked good on the run and then had to extend himself a lot in the long straight that was left but still his class saw him only just beaten there. He will be fitter for that run now and better for it back down in distance and can towel these late.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Lorenzetti 
Not sure Lorenzetti has what it takes to win this but he is a spot to include for your exotics bets. He was three weeks between runs when stepping out over this distance on the Pakenham Synthetic last time out where he boxed along the speed in the run and battled on well after being inconvenienced in the straight to finish third behind Confrontational. I am not sure how well the form stacks up off the Synthetic now but he clearly likes this trip and has been turned around quickly so there is intent. Craig Williams will also give him every chance.

BEST BET - #7 - Korobeiniki (BEST BET)
I reckon Korobeiniki is going to take this out and looks to be an ultra progressive horse for the Harnett stable. He resumed off of a long 27 week spell over the 1400m on the Pakenham synthetic where he wound up before the straight and stormed down the outside to get the money in impressive fashion before stepping out to the mile on the Synthetic and getting the job done again impressively. He then came to the 1740m at Sale last time out where he should have won again but was held up multiple times and still hit the ground running to get into the placings late. This contest really isn’t all that strong, he’s hard fit, flying and draws to recieve every chance. Very keen.

THE DANGER - #1 - Diamond Model
Around $3.00 seems about fair for Diamond Model who does rate as one of the overall best horses of the meeting and takes a step back from Saturday grade for this. He gets a key claim from Madison Lloyd to offset top weight and draws to have every chance. He comes off the back of a luckless run at Morphettville where he sped across to lead and looked to chase well in the straight but lost a plate and was crowded out before being eased out. He might want his toe in the ground a bit more than we get tomorrow but is classy and sure to run well.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Critical
Just the two career starts for Critical thus far and he resumed at the beginning of last month where he had a very tough run out the back and wide all run but he still came on strongly late to not be totally disgraced there and showed that his first career outting win might not be a fluke. That was off a 22 week spell with no public trials and the way that he won on debut at Geelong is too good to ignore where he clocked some splits that read the best in this field. I think he will be tuned up and a lot sharper now second up and can surprise at odds.

BEST BET - #8 - Sirius Black
It is no secret how Maher and Eustace are with their imported stayers and Sirius Black is exactly that. A french import for the stable that has had just the two career starts down under and after a close second placing when resuming from a 37 week spell he stepped out at the mile at Warracknabeal last time where he led and gave a big kick at the top of the straight to dominantly take that race out. That was only second up and I wold think he’s looking for longer but the stable rarely places their runners without consideration and I assume he will look the winner a long way here again.

THE DANGER - #2 - Florida Dream 
I am pretty keen on Florida Dream to roll some of these favourites. He was supposed to step out in Saturday company at The Valley but they drew a poor gate and he was scratched there for this assignment. He gets a nice claim from Lafferty to take him down to 60kg here and draws the rails, out to a bigger track. All signs point to big things and from the way he has been running in his last few he won’t need to find much to win this.

VALUE BET - #3 - Swindon Lass 
Longshot here but it is too weird to see Swindon Lass in a field like this starting as the last line in betting so there’s no way I am not going to have a throw at the stumps in case he has been tuned up for this. He’s a class animal for the Brown stable that resumes off of a huge 47 week spell when he had some problems towards the end of last campaign. He’s got two wins and a placing at this track in four runs and a win and placing first up in four first up runs. He loves this distance range, gets a nice claim for Logan Mcneil which signals intent as otherwise the stable would probably just let him lug the big weight for a fitness benefit and I have a sneaky feeling he will go close at odds.

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse.
