Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Lakeside Racecourse 21/02/24

We have a bumper eight race card set for Sandown Lakeside tomorrow and we should see some very nice types from the top Victorian and out of state stables either making their debuts or early into their preps who are underways into the Spring racing season. The majority of the races are in mid distance ranges which is always exciting, most of these races will be contested in BM70 / BM64 grade. I have outlined my best betting spots on the card so follow me below!

BEST BET - #9 - Quickster
Quickster has got to rate highly coming back to racing here after kicking the career off with a very solid run into fourth place in a Group two at Moonee Valley before stepping out in late November in the Caulfield Guineas and chasing solidly to end up midfield there. That was a Group 1 race at her third career start so you’d imagine she will be tough to beat coming here now.

THE DANGER - #3 - Fury 
Fury returned very nicely to racing for the Hawkes camp and I think has to be respected coming here second up, with natural improvement, off of the 17 week break. He resumed at this track over the 1200m when taken back from a wide barrier and really coming on strong in the straight to hit the line hard and place third solidly. Should only be sharper off of that effort.

VALUE BET  - #10 - River Rose
River Rose seems like a smart import for Ciaron Maher who I think shapes up well in this field. He’s had a couple runs to kick off the career in Aus with the most recent of which being at this track and trip a couple weeks ago where he was only outkicked late in the piece to place second. Should be strong here with fitness and Shinn aboard.

BEST BET - #3 - Lost (NEXT BEST)
Lost resumed to racing very well off of a 17 week break and I think that is enough to go by to rate as the leading contender here. He stepped out at Caulfield a couple weeks back when coming from the rear of the field to clock the second fastest last 600m of the meeting that day and finish runner up to a horse with the gun run. He shapes up very well off the back of that now and looks one of the better betting spots of the day.

THE DANGER - #2 - Lazy Susan
Honest danger in Lazy Susan who steps out here for the Bedggood stable and has been finding plenty of success in her debut preparation at the races, with two wins aboard and a bunch of sharp placings. She last raced over the 1200m at Moonee Valley where she sat on the speed and tried hard in the straight but just couldn’t get there when second to another horse then. Shapes up well here.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Cuban Link
Cuban Link resumed well to racing last time out under Craig Williams for the Eurell camp off a 26 week spell where he was held up from the 400m to 200m but when he got clear air he was quite strong through the line when racing well late. Sticking at the trip I find interesting but he generally improves sharply second up abd goes very well at this course.

BEST BET - #4 - Austmarr
Austmarr rates the highest in this field going based off of recent runs and should be at his peak third up for the Freedman’s. He raced a couple weeks ago at the Valley where he was inconvenienced early in the run and was forced to race three wide but was extremely brave in defeat when still able to chase hard in the straight. Should be tough to beat here in a good contest.

THE DANGER - #7 - Outback Miss
Beware the unbeaten horse in Outback Miss who returns to racing since kicking the career off with back to back wins back in July last year and looking very sharp in doing so with most of the fields in both those races having won since. The recent Geelong trial was sharp and the stable is always in good form.

VALUE BET - #5 - Tanto (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Tanto appears to be in career best form after his last two runs on the Hillside track here and can go on with it with the weight offset from a claimer coming aboard. He put the writing on the wall two back before stepping out last time where he cruised to the line over the last 50m in a race where he had panels on the field. He looks up to the test here and I think is worth a stab at odds.

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse.
