Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Lakeside Racecourse 29/11/23

We have a bumper eight race card set for Sandown Lakeside tomorrow and we should see some very nice types from the top Victorian and out of state stables either making their debuts or early into their preps who look towards the huge Spring racing season that kicks off this week! The majority of the races are in mid distance ranges which is always exciting, most of these races will be contested in BM70 / BM64 grade. I have outlined my best betting spots on the card so follow me below!

BEST BET - #11 - Socks Nation (BEST BET)
Socks Nation looks like the straight bat option for Maher and Eustace here and I think rates highly off the back of his last run. He’s only had three career starts for the stable so far and last time out he came off of an 8 week break from racing when stepping out over the 1400m at Pakenham on the course proper and running very honestly, looking the winner, and was only found out by one horse late in the piece. Rates highly here.

THE DANGER - #3 - Piercing Sky 
Piercing Sky is another lightly raced horse who looks suited here. He has had just the one run for the Cumani stable where he debuted over the 1400m at Pakenham with no public trials and after being slowly away he chased very hard in the straight to finish runner up in a big field there. That was on the same day as Socks Nation and he clocked some of the best late splits of the meeting so I do think he should be a lot closer than he is to Socks Nation odds wise.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Jenny The Beaver 
Jenny The Beaver comes up here at huge odds and I understand that she is taking the step up in terms of coming to town from Avoca but the way her debut run at Avoca reads on the clock is too good to ignore. She stepped out there to kick the career off over the 1300m where she angled off the fence in the straight from deep in the run and was storming home down the outside to finish a length away from the winner there.

BEST BET - #1 - Soar Beyond
I am pretty keen on the chances of Danny O’Brien’s Soar Beyond to make start three another win and I think he has quite a talented horse on his hands in this four year old. He debuted at Seymour where he ran a close second over this trip before last stepping out at Kyneton where he came from 9th on the rails to weave a passage in the straight and just keep charging to win well. Third up now, hard fit and in a small field he should have to use less energy to find a run, go well.

THE DANGER - #4 - Nation State
It’s hard to knock Nation State who has had just the two career starts and after debuting at Sale and running a close third he was sent back to the paddock for track work for half of the year before resuming to racing two weeks back at Ballarat where he trucked along the speed in the run, looked gone, and then just found more late to win very bravely. Plenty more upside to come off of that and I am keen to see how he looks when he races here.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Trustfall (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Trustfall has only had the two career starts for the Bowman stable and whilst he is taking a big step up in competition I don’t think you can totally knock him after the way he returned to racing. The stable wasn’t totally satisfied with his debut and he went back for a spell after that but then returned from a 25 week break a couple weeks ago where he shifted out wide from on the speed and belted them to the line to win well. Plenty of upside to come and he can sneak into the placings without surprising me.

BEST BET - #4 - Toronto Terrier (NEXT BEST) 
Toronto Terrier has to lug the top weight here but he does so with a few key rivals having to do the same. He’s also taking a big drop off in competition here and comes into this third up and hard fit, ready to fire. Both of his runs this time in have come in BM78 grade where he has chased strongly down the straight from out wide to finish runner up and now drops back to this level ready to win with McNeil aboard. Top chance.

THE DANGER - #9 - El Soleado
The almost joint favourite El Soleado really looks to have gotten going again off the back of his run last start and I think has to be respected for the Laing stable here. He resumed off of a 26 week spell at The Valley last time out where he was held up for a run from the 400m to the 200m and then found a gap and powered home to finish runner up there. He should be stronger here now second up.

VALUE BET - #5 - Airclash
Airclash is one I am happy to entertain at longer odds for the Laurie camp and has gone very close in his two runs back and I think, given the price he comes in at, he is worth a throw at the stumps. His two runs have come at Horsham and Ararat this time in with the first having him run home well from the inside to place second and last time out managing to find room late to power home and place third there. Hard fit now, small field, surely runs better than $16.00
