Wednesday Racing Tips - Warrnambool Racecourse 03/05/23

The Warrnambool carnival is well and truly underway and we have an exciting day two of the carnival, the weather has been perfect down there, with the track rated a soft 6 and the rail in true position. There are 10 races on the card with a total prize pool of $800k and the feature of the day is the Wangoom Handicap run over 1200m for a share of $200k prize money. Follow me below as I outline my best bets on the card!

BEST BET - #6 - Hellara (NEXT BEST)
Hellara will do me in an even two year old contest, she has done little wrong in her three start career and looks very well suited in this field to go over now. She did well when resuming a few weeks ago in a small field at Geelong where she was a short favourite and looked the winner but just couldn’t get one over Vivy air. She will be fitter and better for that return and can go one better now.

THE DANGER - #1 - Debating
Debating can go one better now and meets softer competition here than on debut two weeks ago when racing at Morphettville in a very strong 2YO race. He was wide with no cover all trip and just kept finding the line well when honest in defeat behind Heuristic. He should get a nice run in transit here and will be prominent on the turn.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Scentify
Scentify is a good looking colt for the Maher and Eustace camp that is coming here on debut after some very nice jumpout work. The latest was at Ararat where he looks to be progressing along very nicely, sitting just off the speed and being asked for a bit in which he duly gave. He looks talented and whilst hes been bred for further this isn’t out of reach first up coming from the prominent stable.

BEST BET - #12 - Thermodynamic 
I like the look of Thermodynamic here for Chris Waller second up after debuting at Geelong when he had a solid run in transit but just didn’t do too much when rolling towards the line late. The time wasn’t that bad and the run style looked good, he gets a huge jockey upgrade to Nash now and they draw to get the run of the race. Top chance to improve to win second up.

THE DANGER - #4 - Khor (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Sierra De Fredos is on debut for the Price/Kent stable and looks to be in right order for his first start at the races. His most recent Jumpout at Mortlake was what really caught my eye where he scored easily from the front and looked to be trucking along like he had much more to give. The stable is astute with their juveniles and he looks ready to go. Big watch.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Khor (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Khor looks very well placed for Maher and Eustace off the back of his three jumpouts, with two of them being recent to ready him for this. His recent Jumpout at Ararat looked very very good, he exhibited a nice big stride and then motored away in the straight. Looks to be a talented type and whilst he is bred for longer his class could see him have lengths on these first up.

BEST BET - #12 - Sacred Palace (BEST BET)
Sacred Palace has been prepped for this race and is trained here. He last ran over the 1100m at Bendigo and came on ever so strongly from off the speed to just miss out on getting one over El Salto in a bobbing finish. He gets well down in the weights here now, is back at his home base and runs his best over this distance. As long as he doesn’t get sucked back in the run I think he will be too good for these.

THE DANGER - #9 - Taunting
Taunting is a very good horse for the Hickmott stable who ticked off a Stakes win last time out at Oakbank in the Railway Stakes and will be heading towards the Goodwood now. He got an ideal ride in that win, sitting just behind the speed before getting clear air and being every so impressive in the way he won that. He’s third up now so you’d think there would be some upside and historically is a good horse at around this point in his preps, out to bigger trac now he appeals majorly.

VALUE BET - #1 - Frankie Pinot
I can’t seem to get it right with Frankie, when I back him he flops and when i fade him he’s in the finish. The McEvoy trained runner is always a threat though and looks to have come back to racing in very good order after resuming at The Valley and then going onto the Victoria Handicap where he got way out of his ground, coming from last to run second to Cardinal Gem. That was very impressive and he should improve now, if he can be closer in the run he will look the winner late.
