Wednesday Racing Tips - Warwick Farm Racecourse 19/04/23

Midweek metro race meetings at Warwick farm continue and there are some very nice types coming back to the races / some on debut in the first three races of the card and two of them are over the 1200m with a 1600m to kick the card off. The rest of the races are all in BM72/78 grade and should make for an exciting and high level race day. The track is rated a soft 5 and the rail is out +3m, follow me below as I outline Warwick Farm’s race day, the article contains my best and next best runner of the day as well as a multi and trifecta for the day and a value runner.

BEST BET - #1 - Snapback (NEXT BEST) 
I think it could be a case where Snapback is being overlooked purely because there are some talented first starters here but the Snowden trained horse has done better than most have time wise than any have at all after just the one start late last year when second to Lazzago. He trialled at the same distance last week (1080m) and pretty much replicated the time he did when on debut over the 1100m. Schofield is on and I think he’s the leading contender.

THE DANGER - #2 - General Salute 
General Salute is a very real danger in this race for Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou who has had just the one start at the races behind Red Resistance and Steel City and he was amazing late from the back of the field when coming from near last, having been out wide the whole run to motor home into third. There was a big gap to the first two from there but look at who they are and the general salute also had the roughest run of the three. Gets a top chance to go over now second up after a three month break.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Armed Forces 
Armed forces is on debut for Waller who combines with flying Hong-kong visitor Joao Morreira and the two year old is looking ready to make it a winning first start after running in two rosehill trials in the last three weeks at the 900m where he looked very good and clocked good times in both when second. Stable is astute and Jockey is elite, must respect.

BEST BET - #12 - Gilmore (BEST BET) 
Gilmore looks very well placed to to make it back to back wins after returning to the races in great order off a long break when coming from three wide and four deep to end up third in a time that reads well for this at this distance before dropping back 100m at Wyong a couple weeks ago and breaking through in good time with a smart run style. Does draw wide but Parr should be able to settle close to the front and be hard to hold out from there.

THE DANGER - #13 - Eagle Nest 
Tim Clark pairs with the Ryan & Alexiou stable under Eagle Nest again after jumping on for the ride a couple weeks ago at the Hawkesbury and scoring in good fashion. The time reads well for this and he looks to have come back to the races very very well after switching stables from Annabel Neasham. Draws well and is a top chance to win.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Lonrioli 
Lonrioli resumed a winner at Kembla as a short priced favourite two weeks ago on the heavy going over the 1000m and she ran very fast there and looked to have a good run style when taking over at the 200m and being far too good for them. Has plenty of scope to improve off that and Nash jumps aboard for the ride. Key chance.

BEST BET - #2 - Tsarina Sophia
I think Tsarina Sophia can hit back hard in this field after resuming from an eight week let up in the G3 P J Bell at Randwick when 10th of 15 but was checked badly at the 800m and 500m after already having been taken back from a wide gate. Smaller field, gets Brenton back on who has rode her in half of her runs and maps to stalk the speed. two weeks between runs now, leading chance.

THE DANGER - #3 - Demiana 
Demiana won on debut at Canterbury before just missing ten weeks later when second up in some stronger company and finishing just behind Ningaloo Star there, didn’t recover well when seventh at Warwick Farm two weeks later and now has had some time to lead him back into this, they map to be on the speed and should be the one they have to beat.

VALUE BET - #8 - Ponca (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Ponca rates very well in this field and gets in very light at 55.5kg, the Mick Freedman runner hasn’t shown an awful lot at the trials and hasn’t done much since winning at Wyong third up to make it back to back wins. The times when in form have been too hard to ignore and races best with fresh legs.
