Wednesday Racing Tips - Warwick Farm Racecourse 29/03/23

Midweek racing returns to Warwick Farm after a couple weeks off and we have a stacked eight race card with a couple maidens to kick it off and then following should be a day of competitive sprints / mid-distance races and a lone staying race. There’s some very nice types going around for some of the most prominent NSW stables and the jockeys booked for the meeting are the premiere in the country. It should make for an exciting day of racing, follow me below as I outline the card with my best and next best runner of the day as well as a multi and trifecta for the day and a longshot runner.

BEST BET - #1 - Boyfriend 
I think Boyfriend can go over a winner second up now. He resumed after a year long lay off from the races a fortnight ago at this track on similar grounding to this over the 1100m where he was far from disgraced. He settled last on the rail from the draw there, before shifting out smartly on the turn then being held up but when he got clear air he ran strongly through the line. I think he settles just off the pace / still on speed and will get his chance here to burst through. Top contender.

THE DANGER - #9 - Golden Queen 
Golden Queen is a top prospect for the Waterhouse / Bott stable who comes into this second up after making her debut at the races in the same race as the aforementioned Boyfriend and she was mighty impressive there, she worked hard to lead two wide and sustained a strong speed to just go down to place second in a bob of the heads. Will only be better for that run and if she crosses and leads from the widest gate, good luck catching her.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Shipshape (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)

James Cummings and Jmac combine on Shipshape who is seeing her second run back to the races after resuming at Gosford two weeks ago where she came from last to angle off into the straight and worked home very strongly, clocking a sub 35 second last 600m there. She will be fitter and better for the run and Jmac jumps aboard now and they map to be just behind the speed.

BEST BET - #8 - Miracle Spin (BEST BET)
Great little staying race we have here and I am keen to be with Miracle Spin who comes into this third up and has won third up before. She returned to racing just over a month ago when racing in a strong Rosehill BM72 over the 1500m and went like a jet late, going from last to third in a field of 14. She then went to Eagle Farm three weeks back when coming from last on the turn to finish 2nd of 9 there in a BM78 over the 1830m. Based off everything thus far this prep she should be ready as you can be to take this out and I think she has a fair bit of class to her.

THE DANGER - #2 - Iowa
Iowa is a smart prospect for the Newham camp who resumed racing after a four month break at Hawkesbury in a weaker race than this over the 1800m and she scored nicely there, with 61kg on her back at long odds. She gets a huge jockey upgrade to Josh Parr now and sheds a bit of weight off her back too and whils the race she won wasn’t overly strong, the time reads very well for this and she will only be better with the run under her belt.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Oceanic Flash
I think it would be criminal to count Oceanic Flash out based on her recent form. At her latest run she settled about midfield in the same grade as this and came on really strongly to finish 2nd behind Goldman, who just won a Stakes race this past weekend and looks to be onto races such as the Melbourne Cup later in the year. That was over the 2400m so she drops back 200m now but don’t think it’ll be any cause for concern. She maps to sit on the speed and won’t have to find too much of a kick to be in the finish late.

BEST BET - #2 - Audette (NEXT BEST)
This looks like a race that will be a two way battle between the favourites. Despite Audette drawing the widest barrier I think that I am keen to stick with her in a field of only 10. I think that she can overcome the bad draw. She is a very talented horse who picked up multiple wins last prep, one of them being here on the heavy and I think the key to her is the sting being out the ground which she gets. She’s fitter and better for her fist up run at Gosford a couple weeks ago where she had the gun run and missed in a bob of the heads but ran a great time there and had to work a bit in the run. I think she will go one better tomorrow.

THE DANGER - #7 - Arbitration
Arbitration is a Cummings trained four year old mare who resumed three week ago at Kensington when she sat 6th on the rail in transit before angling out and having her chance but just not being able to go on with Hypothetical and Conrad to finish behind those two, who were further into their preps. She’ll strip a lot fitter for this now, Jmac hops aboard and they map to have a great run on the speed with potentially some cover. Very dangerous.

VALUE BET - #8 - Picarones 
Picarones might not have shown too much at his first outing this prep but the Cummings trained runner definitely has potential. He’s shown that he prefers the softer going in previous preps and whilst he faded to finish near last in his return, he might just have needed that run. He meets a softer field, maps nicely and the absolutely flying Brenton Avdulla gets the booking. Can Surprise.

Moreira is known for his skill and expertise in riding, as well as his ability to form strong partnerships with his horses.
