Wednesday Racing Tips - Wyong 18/01/23

Racing at Wyong in the midweeks continues through to the end of January. This week features a solid Seven race meeting with $300,000 prize on offer. There are a few prominent stables putting up horses and some good jockeys racing at the meeting. Most races are at sprint distance and I expect this to be an exciting day of racing.

BEST BET - #1 -  Vindication
I think there are a couple standout runners in this race but the first of which is the Austin runner Vindication who races under Brett Pebble tomorrow. He is racing back from the city when in much stronger company and showing there was something there. He was bumped around at Royal Randwick and still managed to squeeze through for a run to come into fourth and run a good time. I think he takes this out or goes super close.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Mad Darcey
Mad Darcey is another who looks to be progressing through the grades, he was third when resuming at this track over the 1100m and looked solid there before going to Warwick Farm and breaking maiden over the 1200m under similar conditions to what is expected. He looks to be a smart type off the back of last run and natural improvement should see him in the finish.

THE DANGER - #3 - Hamaki
Hamaki is an honest horse who I have been following this prep. I tipped him first up at the beginning of last month when resuming at Hawkesbury over the 1100m as a short priced favourite and picking up a soft, confidence boosting win. He never really got clear last time out when stepping up in grade at Warwick Farm and I think that third up and in this company he will make this a close race.

BEST BET - #6 - Dancing Alone
I could be setting myself up by tipping in this maiden race but I really think there are two standouts that I am interested in. Marginally, I am most interested in Dancing Alone who comes to the races after being patiently prepared by Bryce Hays with 5 trials over the last nine months and a recent soft trial win when looking like he had plenty in hand. I think this could be a horse to follow into bigger and better.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Royal Empress 
Local Clarry Conners and prominent jockey Tim Clark combine on Royal Empress who makes her debut at the races on Wednesday and has two trials to prepare her for this. I am intrigued by the most recent trial when ridden reasonably quietly but she has a nice stride, looks well bred and appears to have plenty of engine under the hood. Interested to see what they bring on race day.

THE DANGER - #1 - Mr Kennedy
Rory Hutchings jumps back on board Mr Kennedy who just hasn’t been able to get a win but is shouting out for one after narrowly coming second in his last two outings. He will be better for his experience on the track last time out and looks suited to stepping up to the 1200m third up now.

BEST BET - #6 - Piraeus 
I think this is a really good spot for Piraeus who is looking to make this a hat trick after picking up back to back wins at Muswellbrook and Gosford. he looks like he keeps improving with each run and was trapped, forced to go slow last time out but still carved a pathway to hammer them late. Pebble is on and I am interested to see how they go on race day.

VALUE BET - #2 - Mihocek 
Mihocek looks good, better than it reads on paper. He resumed at Newcastle on a soft track over the 1250m, they settled further back there than intended after being forced to from the wide draw and never really got into it but still finished sixth of ten. He has shown talent in previous preps and the times read well for this. With a bit of luck from the draw I think he can run them down late.

THE DANGER - #1 - Journalism  
Waterhouse and Bott look to have Journalism ready for a win first up off the back of three nice trials, the latest of which winning softly and seeming to have plenty in hand. He showed talent last prep at Randwick racecourse, placing third at his solo outing there. Josh Parr is on board and he draws nicely and I think he is well suited in this field.
