I like the look of Chorlton Lane at Caulfield in Race 10. Meanwhile, my roughie of the day is Cottee at Eagle Farm in Race 7. At Caulfield, the track conditions should be nice for race day, its a good 4 rating at the moment. The track conditions at Eagle Farm are looking good for racing. Let's get into it!

Best Tip: Chorlton Lane #6 Caulfield R10

He's shown he has the ability to be a serious contender and with a bit more luck and a better trip, he’s got a real shot at taking this one. Previously, 1st of 15 at Caulfield BM84 on May 4, 2024 over 1400m. Has a 50% career win rate so it knows how to win. Loves this track, is yet to finish outside the top 3. Should enjoy the distance (1440m). Likes dry conditions, rates highly. Won before when it was third-up. Rates a terrific each-way play, I think.

Best Roughie: Cottee #14 Eagle Farm R7

In its last race, Cottee was 4th at Eagle Farm on June 15 over 1600m, just 1.8 lengths behind Coastwatch (59kg). This should be another race where I think it can potentially improve and get over the field. Previously, 4th of 15 at Eagle Farm BM78 on June 1, 2024 over 1400m. Distance shouldn't be an issue either, loves running 1600m. Decent record fourth-up so I like it each-way.

Stats and Insights

  • Caulfield Racecourse is a tighter track than Flemington and suits on pacers more until distances past 1600m.
  • Eagle Farm has little barrier bias as the track has quite even wide turns and as such it is good to look for promising backmarkers for the long straight.
  • The first 3-4 races in most meetings are called "Maidens" and these races are usually risky and unpredictable. This is because the runners are usually making their debut or have only had a few starts. So it's advisable to stay from these races unless you have a good bankroll.
