Racing returns to Pakenham racecourse and Grafton racecourse this Thursday for two solid cards as we look towards this weekend’s listed racing once again and I have gone through both of the cards and picked out a best bet and best outside chance of the day. We come out of a solid day in horse racing betting from the midweek cards at Warwick Farm and Sandown Hillside in NSW and VIC respectively. Best Tip: Grafton - R3 - #13 - Top Act
Top Act should be running well here for Matty Dunn after the way he debuted in racing two weeks ago at this course. He stepped out then over the 1106m where he drifted to the back of the field and two wide and came to the middle of the track in the straight when chasing hard in the last 100m into the runner up placing. He shapes up very well off the back of that effort, draws to not get buried too far back in the run and should be the strongest running home here.

Best Roughie: Pakenham - R5 - #8 - Crumpets
Taking a bit of a stab at Crumpets to roll a very short priced favourite for the Moody and Coleman camp in this race but we often see this happening at Pakenham and this guy looks up to the task. Crumpets returned to racing at the beginning of last month off of a 19 week spell for the Price / Kent camp and put on a solid display when coming from two wide and just behind the pace to chase hard into the placings then. There’s been two subsequent winners out of that race and he should shape up well under Brown’s steering here.

Stats and Insights
- Grafton has a 400m straight with the home turn being a long sweeping turn which gives runners time to position themselves for big runs in the straight.
- Pakenham is one of the smallest tracks in the country, with only 1400m circumference and as such suited to front-runners and those horses with the ability to race handy to the pace
- Often, at 1400m - 1600m at Pakenham winners predominantly emerge from barriers 5-8 which suggests those horses who either fire straight onto the speed or those that sit just behind the speed have the greatest chances.
