Whetu is in great form and doesn’t look to be slowing down here for the Collett stable. His last three outings have all been over this distance range, two of which have been smart wins over the 2000m and 2100m and I think that he looks well placed, with the 2kg claim, to win again. His last outing saw him sit at the rear of the field before taking over the race at the beginning of the straight and jetting away with ease to win in good time. I think he maps to do something similar and this isn’t an overly strong field. Decent price as well right now.

Bit of a longshot here but giving another look to the Dwyer stable’s Isola Sacra who comes back to this level after a luckless Saturday grade race in BM70 grade over the 2000m where he worked early to get close to the lead but then did nothing from there and faded into last. I query the tactics and also assume there were some issues there as the start prior (6 weeks between runs) he smashed a field over that same distance and the form from that actually reads very well with four subsequent winners coming out of that race and the time being good as well. He now comes into this at a huge price and I think can run very well here. Taking the risk.
