Racing returns to Grafton racecourse this Thursday for the second and final day of the Grafton Winter Carnival and we have the listed Grafton Cup as our feature of the day, a high level staying contest contested over 2350m. Our Best bets tips got unlucky today with our roughie of the day finishing 6th in a bunched finish, beaten only a length and our best bet doing the hard work early and fading into third when swamped late. We also return to Gosford racecourse which we have been having some recent success at and look to back up our recent success there. I think that Kim Waugh can take out what looks like a sneakily very high quality maiden here at Gosford over the 1200m amongst some big stables runners. The three year old is five runs into her prep but has really hit form in her last two and has been clocking some great times and is set to peak here. Two back she raced at the 1150m at Newcastle when missing the start and worked well through the race to improve, was held up in the straight and held her minor placing. Then, last time out she raced a bit keenly in the early stages but settled behind the speed eventually and chased hard in the straight when the split came and the rider noted she would benefit from blinkers. She’s hard fit, the blinkers go on now and Latham retains the ride, with any luck from the draw I think she wins.

Annabel Neasham’s french import Bellaciaociao can shape up here at big odds. She made her Australian debut in the Tatts Crown (Eagle Farm) when thrown in the deep end by the stable to 2100m and finished off the race very well, only getting warm late due to being crowded out but she was getting going. I think she has heaps more to offer here up in trip and second up in a not overly deep race. If she can slide into a nice cosy spot on the rail from barrier three with Thornton aboard and with only 54kg on her back I don’t see her running poorly.
