Only Racing has you covered for Thursday's horse racing action at Ballarat and Hawkesbury. We have your best bet of the day as well as a cheeky roughie. Nation State has caught my eye in Race 5 at Ballarat. Meanwhile, my roughie of the day is Oakfield Hawk at Hawkesbury in Race 5. The track at Ballarat is looking in good condition, it's rated a good 4 for race day on Thursday. The track conditions at Hawkesbury are looking good too. Let's get into it!
Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets 17/10/24
Best Tip: Nation State #4 Ballarat R5
Nation State has won at this track and before and will be resuming from a spell. In 3 career starts first-up, he has a win and 2 minor placings. Also, has warmed up for this race nicely with a few jumpout wins at Cranbourne against some good competition. It gets a good barrier for this race and I think it should be able to get the job done.

Best Roughie: Oakfield Hawk #2 Hawkesbury R5
Coming off a decent effort at Newcastle, finishing 4th of 8 over 1500m. A strong chance to make up for it here and it should be fitter second-up. Distance shouldn't be an issue, loves running 2000m. Has previously won three straight runs back in June/May this year.

Stats and Insights
- At Ballarat, runners outside of around the ten suffer at least a length’s advantage due to the uniquely challenging nature of the straight.
- Hawkesbury Racecourse is known to have a very real home track advantage and pro punters have affirmed that there are certain runners that irrespective of their form at other tracks, if they perform historically at Hawkesbury then that form is likely genuine.
- The first 3-4 races in most meetings are called "Maidens" and these races are usually risky and unpredictable. This is because the runners are usually making their debut or have only had a few starts. So it's advisable to stay from these races unless you have a good bankroll.

After another exciting weekend of racing, it’s time to go again this weekend and we have a bumper Saturday ahead of ourselves. In Victoria, it’s all about the Caulfield Cup, one of the most popular races in the Spring Racing Carnival. Make sure you check our Caulfield tips this week. Meanwhile, in Sydney at Randwick Racecourse, we’ll have four Group Ones - including The Everest - the richest race in Australia. There is also The Kosciuszko (1,200m), The Silver Eagle (1,300m) and King Charles III Stakes (1,600m) to watch on Saturday.
If you’re having a punt this week, Only Racing is here to provide you with all the betting support you need. We always recommend having a bet with horse racing promos and a bookie that I like this week is Bet Right. For Group 1 races this season, they are offering punters a great deal. If you back a winner, they will give you a 15% bonus on top of your winnings.
Along with plenty of racing features such as Right Price Execution, form guides, mobile app for iPhone and Android, great odds, fast withdrawals and more, I think Bet Right is a great option for backing horses and sports betting as well.
