Racing returns to Sportsbet-Ballarat racecourse and Ipswich racecourse for two solid Thursday racecards and I am keen on a couple of the runners in each as we try to build some momentum again in advance of the Group 1 races that take place on Saturday. Elphinstone has been crying to break through and gets an honest chance here off the back of what has been three close placings to kick his career off. He came off a 22 week spell at this track where he put in a great effort first up where he just clashed with a smart horse late but was very strong, beating all but the winner there before producing a similar effort last time out at The Valley when improving from deep in the run to beat all but the winner. Third up, hard fit and back to a track he’s run well at I think he takes this out.

Drake Passage only has the two wins from 16 starts but does look to have returned in pretty solid order here and I think can go on with it now and pick up a win this campaign. He has had two runs back from a spell this time in and looked to have gotten going quite nicely in his last run when over the Mile at Beaudesert where he got going hard late to just miss in a strong effort. The extra 100m now will be perfect based on his run last time out and he still has upside coming into this third up. Top chance at odds.
