Big week of racing ahead of us and it all kicks off this Wednesday at Doomben racecourse and Sandown Hillside racecourse who are each set for half a million dollar eight race cards and there are a bunch of exciting runners returning from spells and also who look to progress onto Saturday grade as the Group 1 races of Spring are upon us and whilst I don’t have extensive Wednesday tips articles this week (which is a one off) I have outlined my best bet of the day and best outside chance of the day in this article as well as where you can pick up the best odds across the Aussie horse racing betting sites / betting apps. Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets 09/08/23
Best Tip: Doomben - R2 - #3 - Cash Me
Jack Bruce has got a good thing going with Cash me and I think he looks right to pick up another win for the stable in this small field under Cejay Graham who has been with him last start at this track. He won first up at Gatton before a close placing at Rockhampton and then coming to this track over the 1650m where he put in another honest effort when the tactics were switched up and he was ridden more forward with a solid kick in the straight to only find one better in a horse who looks to move onto Saturday competition. He’s hard fit now and ready for the big step up in trip as well as looking like he wants longer and in the small field, coming in at 55kg with Graham’s claim he should be able to get some element of control up on the speed. Keen to see how he goes.

Best Roughie: Sandown Hillside - R4 - #7 - Castel Trosino
It’s going to be a tricky day at Sandown Hillside with a bunch of competitive fields but the key separating factors are going to be the rail back in true position and more importantly that there will be ~40km/h Northerly winds which will make the home straight a battle of tactics as they face it head on. As such, along with ratings, I think that Castel Trosino can get one over the sharp looking favourite in Zaynudin who maps to be well far back in the run and might have trouble overcoming that headwind from back there. Castel Trosino on the other hand maps to lob just behind the leaders from barrier one where he should get a very economical run in transit and with a top jockey on in Mertens, he should be exhausting his cover until the last viable moment to start a run. The horse is yet to put in a bad performance in his last three runs with two super close placings and a win and I think he is well poised to go one better again tomorrow at Sandown.

Stats and Insights
- Sandown Hillside has a dip in the course at around the 450m mark by the rail. As such it suits horses that make their runs away from the inside, enabling them to avoid the dip at the 450m mark.
- Sandown Hillside allows for runners to come on from wider and doesn’t have the same shootout effect as the Lakeside course.
- There is a very clear frontrunning bias at Doomben inclusive of the staying distance of 2000m+, when considering between two selections see where they map to be in the run.
