Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets 17/01/24
Best Tip: Kensington - R2 - #5 - Pure Alpha
Pretty hard to see anything getting past Chris Waller’s Pure Alpha in the opener and whilst the market is all over him I think that he’s a good bank roll builder for early in the day. This guy made his debut at the end of last year at this track on the course proper when him and the winner defeated the rest of the field comfortably and he now strikes a much softer race. I think he’s a good thing.

Best Roughie: Sandown Hillside - R5 - #5 - Great Gust
Great Gust hasn’t put in a bad run in two starts back from a 24 week spell this prep for the Eurell camp and I don’t see him slowing down now. He resumed from the spell with a sharp win at Cranbourne over the 1200m before stepping out at Cranbourne over the 1400m and running very well again to only go down late into second behind a smart horse. Rates highly here hard fit third up.

Stats and Insights
- Sandown Hillside has a dip in the course at around the 450m mark by the rail. As such it suits horses that make their runs away from the inside, enabling them to avoid the dip at the 450m mark.
- Sandown Hillside has a wide turn from the 800 to the 400 compared to Lakeside which allows for runners to come on from wider that wouldn’t be able to on the Lakeside course.
- Kensington is a very wide track with a good run-in that makes it one of the fairest tracks around. It’s hard to say backmarkers are advantaged, but they are the closest thing to advantaged at Kensington Racecourse
