Friday Racing Tips - Goulburn Racecourse 01/03/24

Racing returns to Goulburn for a very nice little seven race card in NSW for $200k of prize money as racing really starts to rise in Australia as the Autumn Group 1 races season is well underway and we approach another big Saturday of racing. I have gone across the card and picked out my best betting spots and outlined them below so follow me!

BEST BET - #1 - Opal Fields (BEST BET)
I don’t like betting horses that are under $1.70 odds and you will rarely catch me doing something like this but I do think that Opal Fields just blows these out of the water and is a nice way to start building a bank roll early on. He won first up over this trip at Newcastle before stepping out at this track and trip where he was only beaten by one after missing the jump. With a clean jump here he blitzes the field.

THE DANGER - #3 - Outback Angel 
Only really writing about the other horses here in case Opal Fields carks it early. This guy does look pretty progressive in his own right for the McRae camp and has had three runs to kick the career off with two runner up placings and breaking the maiden tag last time out at Nowra when getting control out front and never being in doubt from there. Hard fit, in form, looks to have an edge on most of these.

VALUE BET  - #4 - You Wish
All you can do is win and that is exactly what You Wish has done in his lone career start at Queanbeyan just over a month ago when he stepped out for the debut over this trip and held his position up on the speed two wide before being challenged from just about everywhere in the straight but holding them off for a gutsy win. I expect improvement from him and am keen to watch him go around.

BEST BET - #2 - Princess Halo (NEXT BEST)
Princess Halo resumes from an 18 week spell here and having her first run for Donna Scott after coming across from the Ryan camp and I think she can return with a bang here. She showed quite a bit of talent when winning on the Ballarat Synthetic in her first campaign and now comes here off of a trial where she was ridden quietly but she does physically look like a very nice type and I think that with Heywood booked for the ride she’s been placed with some level of intent here.

THE DANGER - #3 - Masters
Masters is a smart horse for the Williams camp. I just think that he could be a bit of a milk drinker with just the one win in fourteen career starts but he does seem to have come back from a 17 week spell well. He resumed at Goulburn where he came from widest to power home and run home into third well. He should take a stack of improvement off of that run. 

VALUE BET  - #6 - Sass 'N' Cheek
Sass ‘N’ Cheek seems to be working towards his second win quite well since coming back from a 20 week spell for the Murphy camp and I think he shapes up well again here. He showed big improvement from the first up run at this course to the last time he stepped out at Canberra when he stayed back along the rail and powered through the field to place third. Third up now, hard fit and should be prominent in some form throughout the run.

BEST BET - #1 - Sidenay 
Sidenay has to rate highly here for the Waugh camp after winning two on the bounce, in career best form and coming here with a good draw, a claimer aboard and with a good draw. His last win was over the mile at Tamworth where he set a brutal tempo out front and despite getting tired late he kicked away from them to win well. I think back 200m in trip is perfect for the way he runs out front and I am keen to see how he goes here.

THE DANGER - #4 - Manhattan's
Manhattan’s has been taking awhile to hit form as they have emplored a few different tactics with her in the three runs she’s had back from a spell this time in but I do think that once they get it right she’s going to get the second win on board for the Widdup camp and that might just come here. She was ridden too hot last time out at The Hawkesbury when racing keenly in the middle stages of the run and just dropping off late. I think that if he can be ridden more conservatively he has the fitness to take this out.

VALUE BET - #6 - The Gift
The Gift has been very solid in his last two runs and has to be given a look here after winning two back over this trip at the Sapphire Coast where he was ridden for luck along the fence and the gap came to which he capitalised and took over. He then backed that up with another very solid run at Goulburn where he ran into the minor placing. He’s hard fit now, gets a claimer aboard and shapes up well here.
