Friday Racing Tips - Newcastle Racecourse 08/03/24

Eight races to be run and won at Newcastle tomorrow and we have quite a nice card on our hands with some of the more progressive runners in NSW stepping out to race as we look towards another weekend of big racing as the Autumn Group 1 races season is well underway. I have gone through this card and picked out my best betting spots so follow me below as I outline them!

BEST BET - #3 - Doraskaya (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
I don’t see any reason why Doraskaya can’t go on with things here after the way he won last time out at Gosford when stepping out to the 2100m and sitting on the pace through the run before taking over and storming away in the straight there for a killer win. He looks to be in career best form and comes into this full of intent and ready to win again.

THE DANGER - #7 - Revelaide
Revelaids broke through at start number six last time out at this course for the Ryan and Alexiou camp and I think he can go on with things here. He put the writing on the wall at Canberra two back when running on very hard from the back of the field to grab the minor placing before stepping out over the 2200m here a couple weeks ago and recording an outstanding last to first win. He rates highly off the back of that effort and can win again.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Global Encounter 
Global Encounter is another for the Waugh stable that has been well placed in this field, having been worked along this prep towards a win. He’s had three runs back from a spell with the most recent being a 1900m run at this course a couple weeks back where he encountered some trouble through the run but ran on powerfully to just be nailed on the line when placing second. The extra few hundred meters looks ideal now.

BEST BET - #7 - The New Sinatra (NEXT BEST)
The New Sinatra did plenty on debut to justify being favourite coming into this race. He stepped out at Gosford a fortnight ago off the back of a few nice trials where he set third along the fence and shifted out wide to find a run in the straight as he battled away in the straight to place third. Despite racing a bit greenly that was a more than good enough debut effort and he will come into this with a stack of natural improvement, surely runs well here.

THE DANGER - #11 - Yayoi 
Yayoi was inconclusive on debut with a bit going wrong in the run and I think he has to be given another chance here for the Hawkes team. He debuted at Canterbury a couple weeks ago when jumping awkwardly and contacting another runner before setting just off the speed and being held up until the 100m from which he ran home well to finish just behind the placegetters. Natural improvement and a bit more luck in the run should see him go well here.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Lady Doris 
Lady Doris has only had the two runs to kick her career off but has looked quite sharp in both for the Ryan and Alexiou camp and I think rates as a key chance in this field. She debuted at Goulburn when weaving a passage to make a stack of ground late and finish second before running in a small field at Wyong last time out and not getting much luck when running into third. Third up now, fit and better for the few debut runs she should be prominent to some degree here.

BEST BET - #10 - Jimmysstar (BEST BET)
Hard to knock Ciaron Maher’s Jimmysstar in the Stakes race of the day at Newcastle and this guy has had an absolute belter start to his career with five wins and two runner up placings in his short seven career start and he looks to have been astutely placed here for a ratings boosting win. After resuming with a big bang at Caulfield at the beginning of last month he stepped out at Flemington two weeks ago in some tough company and was asked to go inside at the 400m when fighting hard to the line, losing a plate and still only being beaten by a head in a very tight go. I think they will take that as a lesson to not ride him too hard in front and with the tactics changed for this race he should prove extremely tough to beat.

THE DANGER - #2 - Unspoken
I think that Unspoken is a very good value bet here for the Snowden’s and he is a natural winner with seven wins and four placings in his seventeen start career. He’s also a bomb fresh horse and he comes here resuming from a 16 week spell since really coming of age at the end of last year when winning four consecutive races in his four race prep. He’s had a nice Rosehill trial the other day and is a three time first up winner in five first up runs. Go very close at a big price.

VALUE BET - #3 - Loch Eagle
Kris Lees sends two very sharp horses for this race in Loch Eagle and Rustic Steel and it was hard for me to decide between them but I think the booking of Dyl Gib might just prove the difference between the two horses. Loch Eagle comes here off of a short let up since racing in mid Jan and has outstanding form here with two wins in four runs at the track and two wins at this trip but four runner up placings additionally. His trial didn’t look like much to the eye but he looks strong and keen and I think all things considered he runs well here.

It’s a big day at Newcastle and there are some real stand out types in a few of these races that I think can take advantage of the front running bias that Newcastle has for the shorter courses especially. I am tipping against a few short priced favourites and as such I have combined my best runners together in a place multi.
