Friday Racing Tips - Yarra Glen Racecourse 29/03/24

Racing returns to Yarra Glen again this Friday for a monster eight race card this Good Friday with the bet365 The Country Discovery being the feature of the day, a $500k race over the 1200m. There’s $1.1 million worth of prize money on offer across the card with some high level debutants at the races in VIC this Friday evening as well as some horses who are deeper into their preps and I am very keen on this card so let’s get stuck into things!

BEST BET - #9 - Flying Temptress
Flying Temptress looks like a sharp horse for Clinton McDonald who should be strong here first up. She only had one start last prep which was back at the end of August last year where she did plenty of work behind Liberty Steps despite not being a winning threat. I do think that she strikes quite a thin race now and her Jumpout’s have been sharp for the resuming run.

THE DANGER - #6 - Princess Duhallow
Princess Duhallow has to rate as a key chance here given that she should give a site from out front. She ran a few weeks back down the Flemington straight and just couldn’t get take the race out where a very sharp Hayes horse in Hedged claimed the race late. This track has a fair bit of leader bias and she will take catching here.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Projeto (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Projeto should be running well here on the quick turnaround after stepping out last Friday at Albury in a strong race over the 900m where he ran on well into third place behind a very sharp horse. The form reads well for this as the winner then would be a very short favourite in this market I’d assume. Go well here at nice odds.

Damn I just love this horse so much. I took him on (stupidly) two weeks ago in the Bel Esprit where he got a great run just off the pace before Mark Zahra found a split for him and he got the win in very good fashion. Not sure how he goes at 1200m but overall based off of that last run he’s flying at the moment and I think that he should get every chance to take this out. I’ll have something on him come the jump.

THE DANGER - #10 - Bank Maur
Bank Maur looks to have come back to racing in really good order and has to be considered one of the leading contenders here for Richard Laming. He stepped out a fortnight ago in the same race that Brudenell won and he clocked some of the best late splits of the meeting then when running on from the tail of the field to finish very strongly. He gets the blinkers on for this assignment and should be the strongest late here in a fast run 1200m.

VALUE BET  - #4 - General Beau
General Beau generally goes very well second up and if he can lift here to put in a better performance than the resuming run then he should prove very competitive here. He resumed off of a 17 week spell in the Gold Comet at Caulfield where he launched at them late from behind the speed to finish a few lengths behind Lempicka, who looks a future WFA star. Has run very well second up in the past with multiple second up wins and I back him to improve sharply into this.

BEST BET - #2 - In Her Stride (NEXT BEST)
You won’t often catch me betting in a get out but I think that In Her Stride is absolutely going like a jet right now and that it is hard to steer away from her off of her recent efforts in racing. She is two from two this campaign after winning like a gun at Morphettville first up she went out at Caulfield Heath last time out and found a big kick in the straight to fend off the challengers and win well again. Should still have more to offer off of those two runs and will be prominent here.

THE DANGER - #3 - Holy Racket
Dangerous horse is the Williams trained Holy Racket who has had two runs at The Valley this time in, winning fresh over the 1000m before stepping out a month ago where she just couldn’t keep the hot speed that they set through the run in the straight when just fading into third place. Gets Craig Will aboard now and has had a bit of time to recover and ready for this assignment and should be prominent here.

VALUE BET - #14 - Apres La Mer
Apres La Mer will bounce straight onto the speed and could be very dangerous from out front. She ran at this track and trip just under two weeks ago where she did just that and was just overrun late by the trifecta. I’m not sure she wins this just based on how she tends to fade in those last 100 or so meters but she will get every chance from out front here and it’s a get out after all.

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse. As a result, horses drawn on the inside have a better chance of performing well compared to those drawn towards the outside.
