Saturday Racing Tips - Caulfield Racecourse 06/04/24

Racing comes back to Caulfield racecourse for the Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives Easter Cup, a 2000m race for a share of $200k prize money and we have a nice support card for the massive racing in NSW here with a bunch of other Stakes races on the program. I have run through and picked out my best betting spots across the card so follow me below as I run through the entire card!

BEST BET - #5 - Moesha
I am a big fan of Moesha coming into this race for Peter Moody and Kathy Coleman. She last raced at The Valley two weeks ago in the Casboult Classic where she got back off of a hot speed and then blasted to the line behind Gumdrops where the two of them put a space on the field. I think that was a rev up for this assignment, she’s been turned around quicker now and will be tough to get past here.

THE DANGER - #4 - Bossy Nic (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
It feels like every punter is taking a good look at the McEvoy’s talented filly Bossy Nic. She comes back to racing here for her first run since Oaks Day where she ran on well ion the Red Roses to finish midfield behind Mumbai Muse. Her jumpouts to lead her back into racing have all been pleasing to the eye and I think she runs well here first up in a race that is well within her reach.

VALUE BET  - #11 - Illative
I think that Illative is a very progressive animal for the Price / Kent camp and I am always happy to entertain Celine Gaudray being booked on a free running horse. He stepped out for his fourth career start a couple weeks back at Pakenham when setting just behind the speed before clicking up to take the lead off of them in the final 200m and power away for a very sharp win. He now comes in here pretty much at limit weight after the claim for Gaudray and maps to be near the front. Don’t treat lightly.

BEST BET - #1 - Apulia (NEXT BEST)
I have to be in the corner of Apulia here coming out of the Alister Clark a few weeks back at The Valley where he wasn’t ever given a chance to get into the race from very deep where he got tired and was eased out of it late. However, he was doing some very good work in the Guineas in the run prior and last prep after taking out the Vase he should have also won the Vic Derby so with all that form considered I think he hits back hard here.

THE DANGER - #3 - Sunsets
Sunsets is another who comes out of the Alister Clark and who has been looking for a win this prep. He didn’t have the fitness or class, whatever you want to label it, to go on with them late last time out when finishing just behind the placegetters then but I think that out to this trip and back onto the track he likes as well as this race being no where near as deep should all see him go well here.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Cherokee Brave
Cherokee Brave is one I am happy to entertain at longer odds here for Danny O’Brien, especially given the way that he raced last time out and how that form is stacking up. He last ran at Morphettville two weeks ago over the 2500m when looming at the top of the straight and letting down nicely before only being found out by one sharp horse, who has since won again, late in the piece when running second. Not sure overall how the form stacks up but his splits were good and with two subsequent winners out the race already, he has to be considered here.

BEST BET - #3 - First Immortal (BEST BET)
Insert contenHas to be First Immortal here for the Kavanagh camp after resuming in the Anniversary Vase where he actually looked shot for a fair bit of the run before his class saw him home when giving a massive kick at the 300m and never being in doubt from there. That made it eight career wins in 16 starts and I think that this guy is a potential star who I have been high on for some time. He’ll need to win this to go on with things to Queensland and I think he does. Keen for this run.

THE DANGER - #9 - Carini
French Import for Danny O’Brien who I have never been too sure of but one thing I know is that he’s a very one paced type so getting out to this trip is positive for him. He last ran this track and trip a couple weeks back when picking up late to run third after being a bit flat footed. If they set a decent clip out front instead of it being a pure sit and sprint he will be the strongest late and there maps to be a bit of speed here so go well.

VALUE BET - #8 - Jennilala 
We had Jennilala when she resumed two runs back in a strong get out BM84 at Flemington and gee she went like a jet there when taking over at the 300m and kicking away for a strong win in a very impressive return. She next stepped out being thrown in the deep end as she was placed in the Coolmore a couple weeks ago but I think she handled it enormously well when powering home into midfield once getting clear air at the 300m. She shapes up hard fit here and is way back in depth, has to be respected.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Caulfield.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
