Saturday Racing Tips - Caulfield Racecourse 24/02/24

Blue Diamond Stakes day has already arrived at Caulfield and we have a bumper 10 race card on the program with the Sportsbet Blue Diamond Stakes being the feature of the day, a $2 million Group 1 race over the 1200m. I am very keen on this card as it marks us being properly stuck into the season and have outlined my best betting spots so follow me below!

BEST BET - #11 - Hanchi (NEXT BEST) 
Hard to stack the Western Australian form of Hanchi but I think based on history when these runners are brought over for the season from Perth they generally measure up quite well. This guy looks talented when last racing over the 1200m at Ascot and finishing a close runner up to Stormchaser when just blundering late. He’s had a sharp tick over trial and I think he will be launching at them late. I think him and the favourite should be closer odds so backing Hanchi.

THE DANGER - #7 - Midtown Boss 
Midtown Boss should prove quite strong here for Matt Laurie since stepping out here a couple weeks back at this trip where he looked like he was going to be powering home in the straight but just couldn’t get one over a horse we had in our tips in Rey Magnerip. He is a very well educated horse and will be ready to win here third up. 

VALUE BET  - #8 - Von Hauke
Von Hauke is a sharp horse for Cliff Brown that comes back to racing here not having done so since Champions Day at Flemington where he stepped out over the Mile and was flying hard to the line but just couldn’t get there over Watadeel. He ideally wants longer than this but has run well fresh in the past and with Lane on he gets as good a set up as any.

BEST BET - #1 - Brave Mead (BEST BET)
Brave Mead has to be the smartest horse in this field and I think shapes up as one of the better bets of the day at the course. He hasn’t been seen at the races since Jan 26th when running a cracker all the way win in the Manfred at this track and trip where he beat some sharp horses. This race isn’t as tough as that and he should get some element of control here and take beating. 

THE DANGER - #3 - Don Corleone
Don Corleone might be a milk drinker? With just the one win for the Snowden’s in eleven runs he may be but I really think that he’s a solid horse and that he can come back and come of age this prep. He gets Zahra for the booking so there’s clearly intent here from the stable and his recent trial efforts have been very good with the latest being a Rosehill win. I have a sneaky feeling he runs very well here.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Maharba
Maharba is a resuming runner for the Begg stable that has the quality to be competitive here after having a solid Spring prep. He won on Moir Night at The Valley and placed in the Red Anchor on Cox Plate Day before being sent for a spell. His jumpout work has been sharp and clearly the stable has brought him here with consideration.

BEST BET - #8 - High Octane 
High Octane goes on top here for the Snowden’s and combining with Blake Shinn for this assignment. He won the Preview to get here before racing in the Prelude where he didn’t get any luck when buried along the fence but still blitzed to the line when getting clear air late. Gets out to 1200m now which he will relish and from gate 10 there shouldn’t be too much traffic that he has to get through. Hard to knock.

THE DANGER - #13 - Lady Of Camelot 
Lady Of Camelot has only had the two career starts for the Waterhouse / Bott stable but has been incredibly sharp in them and comes here under Hippo’s steering and at minimum weight, has to rate as a chance here. He resumed from an 18 week spell a fortnight back when leading them into the straight at Rosehill and kicking a couple lengths clear for a soft win. Natural improvement should carry him far here.

VALUE BET - #12 - Eneeza (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)  
Eneeza has to rate highly for the Moody and Koleman camp after the way he has run in three career outings to date and particularly the way she ran last time out behind Coleman where not much went her way. She is set to peak here and last time out even though she wasn’t a winning chance she clocked the fastest last 600m and 400m splits of the entire meeting. Go well here.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Caulfield.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
