Saturday Racing Tips - Doomben Racecourse 13/04/24

A good support card up North comes back to Doomben with ten races at one of Queensland’s premier Saturday racing tracks and I have run through the card and picked out my best betting spots. There seems to be some very progressive horses stepping out at the meeting so watch for them in my tips below!

BEST BET - #2 - Moszur (BEST BET)
Pretty confident that David Vandyke gets an early winner with this progressive looking filly who has won her past two and can make it three in a row here. She smashed a field two back at Ipswich to break the maiden tag easily before stepping out at the Sunshine Coast on the Poly where she was posted wide with no cover but still found plenty to spank them again late. She steps up in grade quite sharply here but I think she is more than up to the task.

THE DANGER - #1 - Ichiban
Ichiban looks like he’s going to love getting out to this trip with three runs over the mile this prep and I think that he’s going to very strong getting out to the 2000m now. He raced last Wednesday where he kept trying hard in the straight behind Showdra when finishing a close fourth and has run very well out in this distance range in the past. Shapes up well in this field.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Elle Magic 
Elle Magic is having a cracker prep for the Foster camp and has picked up multiple wins and close placings this time in. She comes off a run at the Sunshine Coast Poly track where she was powering home to finish very well on the winner’s heels and now goes out to this trip for the first time but based on how she has been going I think she’s going to really enjoy getting out to it. Keen to see how she goes and how she looks in the yard come jump.

BEST BET - #3 - Chinny Boom
This is an interesting betting race but I think that the short priced favourite is deserving of her quote and in terms of class she has panels on these. She has been saved for an astutely placed return since winning the Military Rose at the Gold Coast where she did get the run of the race but still was far too classy for them. She generally goes very well with fresh legs and whilst she’s a bit unknown at the trip I think that she wouldn’t have been placed here without intent.

THE DANGER - #9 - Nashira
If you have been following me for some time you would know that I have plenty of time for Nashira for the O’Dea and Hoystead camp and he comes out of a good form reference for this after resuming in a race three weeks ago at Eagle Farm that was taken out by a smart horse in Bring Me Kash. He found the line well late in the piece there and will only be improved here. Go close.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Mishani Sniper (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
InsI am always happy to entertain Les Ross’s runners up North and this guy I have been on before at a big price so he’s one that goes in for the longer bets / exotics. He last raced Wednesday a week ago where he wasn’t a winning chance but was powering home to the line to finish fourth in a good go. If he can settle even a bit closer to the speed he should be strong enough to take this out at big odds.

BEST BET - #6 - Ranch Hand (NEXT BEST)
Feature of the day here at Eagle Farm and I am backing Ranch Hand with a bit of confidence for Tony Gollan. This horse has come back to racing in very good order and is knocking on the door for a win off the back of two close placings, the first behind Legal Esprit when fresh before stepping out at Eagle Farm last time out and coming from the tail of the field to really get going late and finish second to Ned’s Gully. I think he will be very strong getting out to the 1350m now and hard fitness will only carry him further here.

THE DANGER - #10 - At Witz End 
The market is backing in the Bowen camp’s veteran runner At Witz End who, to be fair, is flying right now and gets another very good set up here. He’s won his past two and does seem to have found a new lease on racing since coming over to the new camp with a blitzing win at Grafton before stepping out here a couple weeks ago and overcoming the wide gate to win even more impressively. I think he shapes up well here and has to be respected with no weight on his back and Samantha Collett aboard.

VALUE BET - #3 - Shibli
Shibli resumes here for Chris Waller, having not raced since mid November last year when stepping out at the Sunshine Coast and being very strong in defeat in a mile long race behind a smart one in Dune Forty Five. He generally does his best work over longer trips than this but he has been trialling like an absolute rocket and he’s sprinted well fresh in the past so if there’s any push for him it should be respected.
