Saturday Racing Tips - Flemington Racecourse 20/01/24

An exciting ten race card with $1.2 million worth of prize money comes back to Flemington racecourse this Saturday for the Be A Mate, Nominate Trophy (Bm78), a 1100m race for a share of $150k prize money and I think that it’s going to be a great card overall. I have run through the biggest races of the meeting and picked out what I think to be some nice spots so follow me below!

BEST BET - #2 - Bermadez (BEST BET)
Bermadez looks like a very solid bet in the opening race of the day for Michael Moroney and is crying out for a win this prep. He last ran in the Coast Classic at Geelong where he ran very strongly but just couldn’t beat a smart animal in Holymanz but no knock on that and this isn’t nearly as strong. His win comes now I think.

THE DANGER - #1 - Suparazi
The only real threat on paper to Bermadez is Ben Brisbourne’s Suparazi who comes off the back of a win at this track and trip last week and has been turned around quickly for this assignment. He came from behind the pack to really let down hard late and win very well then. He only needs to run up to last start to be in the finish again.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Sissoko 
Sissoko is a lightly raced horse for the Hayes boys that did show some promise earlier in her career but really hasn’t done all that much lately. It may just be a case of needing a few runs to get back into her stride however and she has had two runs back from a spell now and can improve enough into this to see her finish in the placings.

BEST BET - #4 - Kin (NEXT BEST)
Kin is a very solid representative of the Godolphin camp who comes out of the Pink Beau Ty race a couple weeks back at The Valley where she was posted wide throughout, which is never easy to overcome at that course, but she still flew home to finish third there. She now gets onto the straight and should be very tough to beat here.

THE DANGER - #1 - A Little Deep
A Little Deep has been building very well to something of this level for Maher and Eustace this time in and she clocked an extremely impressive win at The Valley on that same race day as Kin a couple weeks back where she just kept finding more despite a tough run to win well. As long as she has recovered okay since then I think she goes very well here.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Cute As
One I can entertain that has come up at a huge price is Cute As for the Fliedner stable. He came off of an 11 week break from racing in a deceptively strong Sandown midweek race last time out when jumping awkwardly but improving throughout the run and really hitting the line hard to finish runner up there. This is obviously tougher but he’s fitter and will be sharper here.

BEST BET - #5 - Botany
Peter Moody and Cathy Coleman’s Botany resumed over the 1400m at Caulfield at the end of last year where she let them get too far out in front. However, it is hard to ignore the way that she finished the race off when absolutely jetting to the line. That was her first run in some time so you’d expect there to be a fair bit of natural improvement here and with the right spot in the run she will be dangerous as ever.

THE DANGER - #11 - Naval Seal (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)

Naval Seal is a horse I am very interested in and I am keen to see him in the yard but am most likely going to have some money on. He last raced at The Valley where he didn’t look like everything was totally okay throughout the run before really getting going late and almost claiming the race then. I want to see what he looks like trotting around but he should be ready to win here, watch closely.

VALUE BET - #10 - Verifier
Verifier is a smart horse for Nigel Blackiston that hasn’t raced since the beginning of July last year when at this track over the big staying distances where he ran on very well behind one of the better stayers in our country in First Immortal. He generally does his best work a bit deeper into his preps but did run a close second placing when last first up so seeing him in the finish is not out of the question.

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse. As a result, horses drawn on the inside have a better chance of performing well compared to those drawn towards the outside.
