Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 06/04/24

A massive Saturday of Group 1 races at Randwick as the Doncaster Mile is ahead of us, a huge 1600m race for a share of $4m prize money and I am very keen on the day’s racing with three other group 1 races to support. I have thoroughly run through the card and picked out my best betting spots for some of the stronger races of the day and outlined them below so follow me for a very exciting day of racing at Randwick this Saturday!

BEST BET - #8 - Verona (BEST BET)
I would normally be purely focusing on the Group 1 races but I think that the New Zealand import of Ciraon Maher in Verona is a very good horse stepping out here off the back of the Epona Stakes last time out when second up. I thought she was very strong through the line late there despite not being asked for much throughout the run and she has been set for this race, looks like she will love getting out to the 2600m, gets in well weighted with upside she will be strong here again.

THE DANGER - #2 - Stockman
Stockman is a swimmer and he’s also got the edge on a lot of these so I think all things considered he’s going to run well here. He last stepped out a fortnight ago in the Manion where he made a lot of ground from the rear of the field but was never a winning threat and I think now he gets set up a lot better and at his best he takes this out so watch what the market does.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Hopeful
Hopeful should relish getting out to this distance for Neasham after resuming at Rosehill a few weeks ago in the Sky High where he was on speed but just couldn’t pick up late when asked for the effort, finishing down the track behind Lindermann. I think he will be a lot more dangerous getting out in trip and he has displayed that he has plenty of talent to be competitive here. Comes in at a big price and could be worth putting some money on.

BEST BET - #1 - Bandi’s Boy
Bandi’s Boy is clearly the horse to get past in a very interesting edition of this race and although the price does have me wanting to look towards other horses he is worth the first thought. He is on the quick back up after winning the Star Kingdom last Saturday at Rosehill and that reads more than well enough for this so all things considered he’s going to be prominent here.

THE DANGER - #2 - Bianco Vilano 
Bianco Vilano comes in as one of the highest raters here off the back of a big win two back in the Albury Cup before stepping out again last time in another strong race at that course and not getting clear air until late in the straight where he absolutely jetted away to run very strongly into second place. He shapes up very well off of those past two efforts, gets in well here with Williams aboard and can make this a race.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Sharp Shock (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
A horse that the more I look into the more I like is Sharp Shock for Rob Northam and we had him a few weeks ago in the Wildcard where he wasn’t ever fully able to get into the run but gee was he good late when flying home into second place. Prior to then he ran home very well into second behind Bandi’s Boy when nearly claiming him there. I think he will relish stepping out at Randwick now and he is a proven swimmer, gets in light, I think I will have to have something on at the big price.

BEST BET - #4 - Militarize (NEXT BEST) 
Militarize goes on top for me due to the combination of conditions, jockey and the way he is going this time in. He has looked outstanding in all three runs this prep and particularly two starts back when racing in the Guinness here where he was crowded for a run but when it presented itself he was absolutely jetting home to almost claim Celestial Legend in the dying moments. He won the Inglis this time last year in the same conditions we get tomorrow and a further two Group 1 races wins in the mud. I think with Purton on and from gate four he’s going to get every chance here/

THE DANGER - #2 - Obamburumai
Obamburumai is a belter Japanese import for the Yoshimura camp that has been talked about a lot in the lead up to this race and comes here for his second Australian start since taking out the Golden Eagle last year in one of the most exciting wins I have seen in recent history. The way he let down in the straight there was too brutal to ignore him here despite the wet Randwick grounding being a query he has won in Japan on a soft deck and I think he’s just too talented to discount here regardless of any queries.

VALUE BET - #7 - Kovalica
Kovalica is absolutely flying for Waller and I think that he is as honest a chance as any in an open edition of this race. He resumed in the Liverpool City Cup when doing some good work before stepping out in the George Ryder where he was very sharp late in the piece, accelerating hard despite being on the wrong part of the course. He looks to have been set for this and I think that sharp improvement likely comes now.

Making a multi at Randwick is going to be pretty tricky on such a serious race day but I think that if we focus on those that are well weighted, those that are locally trained and those that are hard fit, primed for these races then we have a good chance of taking out this multi.
