Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 13/04/24

The Championships finish up tomorrow at Randwick as Queen Elizabeth Stakes day takes place at the course with a belter $12.7 million race card that sees four Group 1 races take place as well as a bunch of Group two and Stakes races and I am very keen on the day’s racing and have thoroughly run through the card and picked out my best betting spots for some of the stronger races of the day and outlined them below so follow me for a very exciting day of racing at Randwick this Saturday!

BEST BET - #10 - Athabascan (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Athabascan lands on top for me narrowly in a competitive edition of the Sydney Cup. He has been worked along towards this assignment and comes here after running in the Tancred a couple weeks ago where he really got going late when flying home fourth to Kalapour. He now goes 7kg down in the weights, will love getting out to this trip and with Sydney not having experienced much rain it will only aid his cause. Happy to be in his corner at a nice price.

THE DANGER - #12 - Circle Of Fire
Circle Of Fire has been backed in by the market as quite a long priced favourite but I don’t see why he can’t take this out on the quick back up from the Chairmans last Saturday where he won the race very well. He didn’t beat anything notable there but the way he did it was so impressive and he still has a ridiculous amount of upside, heaps of weight off his back and is clearly the one they will have to get past.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Serpentine
Serpentine has been worked along for this race and I think he is going to turn things around going out to this trip and do what he previously hasn’t been able to do at this distance. He’s the 2020 English Derby winner and has plenty of talent but this time in seems like he has been asking for the two mile trip where previously he hasn’t handled it. Both of his runs this time in have been blitzing wins over the 2000m where he has been near the speed and been able to produce a big kick to win well. The trip is the obvious query (0/3 at this trip) but I don’t think the stable would have him trying for this if they didn’t think he could win.

BEST BET - #7 - Pride Of Jenni (NEXT BEST)
Feature race of the day, the $5 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes and if you have been following my tips for some time it should come as no surprise that I am in the corner of Ciaron Maher’s Pride Of Jenni who I think is set to end this prep off with another bang. She was brilliant in the Australian Cup when only grabbed very late by Cascadian and has been outstanding in the two runs prior this prep. She’s meeting some real tough competition here but I expect her to be able to edge them out late.

THE DANGER - #8 - Via Sistina
The short price on Via Sistina just has me looking away from her but she is a high class animal and brings the best form in the race to this. She last took out the Ranvet, in dominant fashion might I add, where she beat the likes of Buckaroo, Zeyrek and Think It Over. Not to doubt the quality of any of those horses but with all of them being beaten since and Think It Over retiring I can’t be betting her at the short price. However, if she blitzed them I wouldn’t be surprised.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Cascadian
The Godolphin Giant slayer who has to be respected here given how he goes at this trip. He knocked off Pride Of Jenni last time out to notch his second Australian Cup win after being held up near the 400m and then flooring them late. His other two Group 1 wins have both been at this course and on the grounding he gets now and I think that it would be foolish to count him out in this race.

BEST BET - #2 - Zougotcha (BEST BET) 
Zougotcha can’t really bring better form to this race than she does based off of her two runs this prep. She beat the likes of Lady Laguna first up and gave her weight relief then before carrying top weight last time out in the Coolmore Classic and still proving too strong for them there. She was then scratched from the Doncaster Mile in favour of the track condition we get tomorrow and she’s proven on the Randwick Mile. I think she’s going to be awfully tough to get past here and am happy to be in her corner.

THE DANGER - #1 - Atishu 
Atishu has to rate as the main danger here coming out of the Australian Cup where she ran very well behind Cascadian and who won this race last year. She is a dual acceptor with the Queen Elizabeth but I think she jumps in this race where she is more suited at the mile, against her own sex and she looks like the map horse here. I think she can win this race again and is the main threat to Waller’s other horse.

VALUE BET - #14 - Tropical Squall 
Tropical Squall is the lone Gai / Bott representative in this race and meets a lot of these better at the weights and still with further upside off the back of two runs this prep where she has been brilliant. She won very well here over 1400m first up two back before doing heaps of work out wide last time in the Coolmore and still was only run down late. She now draws a great gate, is proven at this track and trip and on the grounding we get tomorrow and has to be respected here.

Making a multi at Randwick is going to be pretty tricky on such a serious race day but I think that if we focus on those that are well weighted, those that are locally trained and those that are hard fit, primed for these races then we have a good chance of taking out this multi.
