Saturday Racing Tips - Rosehill Racecourse 03/02/24

Racing returns to Rosehill this Saturday for a bumper ten race card and there are some high level sprints and staying races and racing is really starting to heat up with three listed races at the course. The TAB Southern Cross Stakes is the feature race of the day, a 1200m sprint for a share of $250k prize money. I have picked out my three best betting spots on the card and as such am keen to run through them and give you guys some good bets for tomorrow so follow me below!

BEST BET - #8 - Prost (NEXT BEST)
Prost has to rate ast the horse to beat here for the Waterhouse / Bott stable as he returns to racing from an 18 week spell and looks like he is rearing to go off the back of his recent trial efforts. He debuted in the Breeders Plate where he sat at the rear of the field and launched late to place third to Espionage. His trial’s to lead him back into racing have been very sharp and I think he breaks maiden in this Stakes race now.

THE DANGER - #1 - Traffic Warden 
Traffic Warden is a smart and lightly raced horse for James Cummings who comes into this after breaking maiden at start number two where he stepped out at Caulfield over the 1000m mid December and came from three lengths off the pace to drive to the front inside the 150m and win very well. He’s had a tick over trial to lead him back into this and will be sharp undoubtedly.

VALUE BET  - #6 - King Of Roseau
King Of Roseau is another lightly raced horse who has hardly put a foot wrong in his two career starts and shouldn’t be treated lightly coming into this. He won on debut at Canberra in a sharp effort before stepping out at this course a fortnight ago where he just couldn’t get one past the very sharp Fully Lit. Third up now, hard fit, he should make an impression.

BEST BET - #3 - Lady Laguna
I think that Lady Laguna is a sharp one who will take this race out and continue on with it. She ran very well in Brisbane in her debut preparation, concluding things off with an awesome display in the Magic Million F&M when winning there. She does draw a hard gate here but this race doesn’t have that much depth to it and she has plenty of upside to offer over some of these. Go well.

THE DANGER - #2 - Malkovich
I find Malkovich an increasingly tough horse to catch but he should find the front here and take catching. He last ran back in December in the Kensington down the Flemington straight when bombing out and finishing last but his recent trial work to get him back into things has been very sharp and I expect a much better showing this time around.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Baller (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Baller has gone very well in the past at this course and Tony Gollan rarely brings runners to NSW without serious intent so I think he has to be given a look here. He last ran in the Magic Millions Snippets at the Gold Coast where he ran home very well behind King Of Sparta. That winner is likely onto Group 1 races so all things considered I think this horse goes very well now.

BEST BET - #6 - Lady Of Camelot (BEST BET)
Another sharply placed favourite is Lady Of Camelot for the Waterhouse and Bott stable as she looks set to take her place in the Slipper with a win here. She made her racing debut in the Gimcrack back in September where she ran very well considering she was caught wide with no cover through the whole trip when placing fourth there to Manaal. Her two trials have been blitzing and she rates highly here now.

THE DANGER - #2 - Alinea
Alinea is the other Waterhouse / Bott runner in this race who has been set up similarly to Lady Of Camelot after debuting in the Gimcrack where she wasn’t the best away and was then held up she eventually got to show some of what she’s made of when finding the line well in defeat. She’s clocked some sharp trial efforts since then and will be ready to go over at start one now.

VALUE BET - #5 - Froebel Star
Froebel Star is a horse that debuted two weeks back at the Gold Coast when running in a strong 2YO race over the 1000m and it was an eyecatching debut overall for the Ciaron Maher trained horse. He began well and wobbled a bit through the run, racing a bit greenly but found the line very well in defeat when placing second to Too Darn Lizzie. I think he will have a stack of improvement to come off of that and should be in the mix here.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Rosehill at Rosehill.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in
