Saturday Racing Tips - Rosehill Racecourse 23/03/24

Racing returns to Rosehill this Saturday for what is one of the peak Group 1 races meetings of the season with the Golden Slipper being the pinnacle racing of the day in NSW but we have plenty of high level support races at the course and I have thoroughly run through the card and picked out my best betting spots and outlined them below so follow me for a very exciting day of racing at Rosehill!

BEST BET - #6 - Via Sistina (BEST BET)
Via Sistina has to go on top for me seeing how the overseas form stacks up in these staying races historically. He comes here for his first Australian start for Chris Waller and has been touted as overqualified by UK racing experts. He won the Group 1 Pretty Polly in July last year and has only contested the highest Group 1 races in her past three starts including the Champions Stakes at Ascot. With Jmac in the saddle and in a small field here as long as she’s tuned up which I imagine she will be I think she can put on a sight.

THE DANGER - #1 - Think It Over
Kerry Parker’s Think It Over always has to be respect, especially with no Fangirl in this race. He’s a big star and comes in at the big start price which is a no for me but the way won the Verry Elleegant when getting an A1 steer from Nash was very impressive. He still has plenty of upside off the back of that run but is just a bit too short for me, no disrespect to him at all though.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Buckaroo
I have all the time in the world for Buckaroo for Waller. He resumed to racing and made his stable debut off a 14 week break in the Apollo where I thought he was the best finisher in the race, powering home behind Fangirl to finish midifield in not the easiest of runs. He’s been kept on ice for this race and should be prominent to at least some degree here.

BEST BET - #16 - Militarize (NEXT BEST)
I think with the queries regarding Think About It and even aside from them Militarize looks the winner in this very competitive and exciting edition of the George Ryder. He only found one better very late in the Randwick Guineas a fortnight ago when beaten by Celestial Legend. He’s now hard fit third up, back to his home base and although he’s taking on the older horses here I think he gets his fourth group 1 races win tomorrow.

THE DANGER - #1 - Think About It
Think About It steps out for his first time beyond the 1400m for Joe Pride and has to be respected here. He hasn’t missed a place in his 14 career starts and most recently returned to racing off of an 18 week break in the Canterbury Stakes over the 1300m where he had to do plenty of work in the run and was only nailed by one sharp one in Lady Laguna who had the run over him. He’s undefeated second up but has to overcome the pain barrier here.

VALUE BET  - #18 - Veight
If you have been following my tips for some time you would know how big a fan of Veight I am for the McEvoy’s. He last raced in the Australian Guineas where our free horse racing tips had him but he just didn’t run the Mile out well enough to win when second to Southport Tycoon. Class saw him beat the rest of the field there and I don’t think he’s been placed without consideration here. Should be strong and I would love to see him win this.

BEST BET - #14 - Lady Of Camelot (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Can Lady Of Camelot roll the big guns? I am tempted to say she might just be able to for Waterhouse and Bott and take out the biggest race of the day here. She meets the two favourited in the market ahead of her 2kgs better at the weight and has looked like an outstanding horse in her two career starts after putting on one of the best displays in racing I have seen this season in the Blue Diamond last time out when only going down to Hayasugi late where the bias was completely against her. She’s had a blitzing trial win since and with Shinn aboard she’s going to get every chance to roll the giants here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Storm Boy
Storm Boy is a deserving favourite here for the Waterhouse and Bott camp who has won all four of his career starts and has only even been tested once with that being on soft ground. I think that I just can’t be backing him at the short odds despite how impressive he has been. His last run came in the Skyline three weeks ago where he did win well and he does get Ryan Moore now but you have to go down to $51 odds in this race to find a horse he has beaten. Good horse, just not the one for me.

VALUE BET - #7 - Switzerland
Feels like the whole of Australia has been waiting for Switzerland to get to this race. All three of his career starts and wins have been lethal and he’s put fields away like they were barrier trials. He’s going to relish staying at this trip off the back of a blitzing run in the Todman and with Jmac sticking for the ride and what looks like a hot run 1200m he’s going to be awfully dangerous here.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Rosehill at Rosehill.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
