#4 - Fine Rebel - $7.50
BEST BET - #7 - Wonderwall
Wonderwall should be going close here and all things considered if he gets a decent run, which I back he will with Cartwright aboard in a small field, he should be winning this. He resumed off a long 44 week spell four runs back when fighting hard bravely all run to only find one better late which was the same story next outing before shedding the maiden tag two runs back in style in the heavy at Seymour. Last time out he was luckless in running, being forced to do it tough and fading late in stronger company. He comes back to a smaller field now and gets a nice claim, maps to settle just behind the speed and if he gets clear air on the turn he likely wins.
THE DANGER - #8 - The Devil In Her
The Devil In Her looks like a good up and coming horse for Patrick Payne and has to be respected coming from the stable and being under Billy Egan’s steering alone. She returned to racing in the Heavy at Tatura off a long spell and came on from last and three wide to power over the field in the straight in a bold return to racing. She then came here last time out where she didn’t get a split until very late and once she did she bolted through the field to finish just outside the placings in fourth. I think that she is a true swimmer and that is my only knock is we get a soft 5 tomorrow, more on the good side but she hasn’t run a bad race yet this prep.
VALUE BET - #3 - Madalsa (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Madalsa is one of the more interesting runners in the field and one that I am keen to see how she goes here. She debuted in the Summer and won a 1600m Ararat maiden where she didn’t beat a whole lot on debut but the way she did was impressive and the time was good. She then took a huge step up in competition to the G3 Adrian Knox Stakes at Randwick in the Heavy over the 2000m where she was wide throughout, having to work in the run and was eased out of it. She has since come over to the Sandhu stable and now returns to racing under Gaudray’s steering, I think she’s going to run well.
