Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Lakeside Racecourse 07/02/24

We have a bumper eight race card set for Sandown Lakeside tomorrow and we should see some very nice types from the top Victorian and out of state stables either making their debuts or early into their preps who look towards the huge Spring racing season that kicks off this week! The majority of the races are in mid distance ranges which is always exciting, most of these races will be contested in BM70 / BM64 grade. I have outlined my best betting spots on the card so follow me below!

BEST BET - #1 - Soar Beyond (BEST BET)
Soar Beyond comes into third up from a short two month spell and ready to go over after clocking two good efforts since returning from a spell. He returned at Geelong over 1100m when running home well to clock a good third placing before last stepping out at Pakenham and being crowded for a run but when he got clear air he powered away to finish just behind the placegetters. I think hard fit and in form he only runs well here.

THE DANGER - #8 - Sparkling
Sparkling has had a short four start career but hasn’t run a bad race in four outtings with a win and two runner up placings and now comes back here off of a short break since running at Cranbourne at the beginning of the year where he booted clear at the top of the straight and was far too strong for the field through the line. He’s had a tick over trial to lead him back into racing and he shapes up very well here.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Neto 
Not sure that Neto has what it takes to take this out but he has certainly been running well enough to entertain at the price he comes into this race at. He’s had three runs back from a spell and has gone well in each, with a win first up where he thrashed a field before last stepping out at Wangaratta where he again bolted to the line from the back of the field to grab the minor placing. He’s over the odds here I am convinced.

BEST BET - #6 - Versilia (NEXT BEST)
Versilia comes into this third up off of a 12 week spell and has been worked along quite nicely so I think now with hard fitness and off the back of a much improved run along with the booking of Blake Shinn I think he can run a cracker race for Danny O’Brien. He last ran at Caulfield two weeks ago where he came from three deep to take over and just battled away in the straight when bumping into a smart horse and placing second. Go well here.

THE DANGER - #8 - Miss Passion
Miss Passion shapes up well here for Peter Moody and Cathy Koleman after clocking a bunch of consecutive placings and a first up win and I think as long as there is steam in the tank still she will be running well here. She comes out of a sharp race at this course on the Hillside portion where she chased hard the entire straight and looked the winner a long way but just bumped into a smart horse late and placed second there. 

VALUE BET  - #2 - Hell Hound
Hell Hound can improve sharply into this second up for the Price and Kent camp and I think has to be given a look here. She has already clocked three wins in thirteen career starts with one of those being second up and she comes here after returning to racing off of a 22 week spell when having to do things tough out wide at this course. She would gave retained a huge fitness benefit off of that run however and should be a lot more revved up for this assignment.

BEST BET - #5 - Tahlequah
Tahlequah looks like a well placed horse for the Price and Kent stable who clearly have sent a bunch of their runners with a lot of intent to tomorrow’s meeting and I think this guy can get the win checked off for this campaign now fourth up from a long break here. He’s had three runs where he has steadily improved with each and comes out of an 1800m race here a couple weeks ago where he joined the lead at the 250m and fought hard to the line but just couldn’t get one over the exacta there. Hard fit I think he leaves his mark in this field.

THE DANGER - #7 - Charisse
Charisse has been turned around quickly for the Moroney camp and has to be given some element of respect here after stepping out over the Mile here a week ago where he drove hard on the run from fourth place to start a big run in the straight before being checked at the 300m and not really able to build back into it again from there, going down in third place. With a more economical run he should feature here.

VALUE BET - #2 - Mi Rock Aly (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
I think dropping back in grade combined with stepping out for this assignment third up is a good recipe for Mi Rock Aly who comes off of a run on the Hillside part of this course two weeks ago over the 1800m where he took over at the 300m and kept fighting hard to the line when probably starting the run a bit too early and just being over run late by the winner and placegetters. Out to this trip now he should be prominent.
