King Charles III Stakes Preview and Tips 19/10/24

How exciting?! We’ve got a massive day of racing this Saturday with three Group One races to feast our eyes on. You get heaps of racing at Randwick Racecourse this weekend with the King Charles III Stakes and The Everest. On top of this, we have two key races; The Kosciuszko and The Silver Eagle

Can’t forget about the Caulfield Cup either, which takes place at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday as well. The Spring Racing Carnival is certainly heating up and I’ve got you covered with tips for all the major races this weekend.

My Saturday tips for OnlyRacing have landed and this article covers my thoughts on the King Charles III Stakes. I’ve looked into all the runners, crunched all the numbers and have five tips in total for you, so there is something for everyone. You can find all my best bets here.

Race Tempo and Likely Leaders

It’s a pretty easy speed map, with the race running as fast as Pride Of Jenni wants to take it. Can she lead from post to post? Her fans certainly hope so! It’s important for the rest of the field that they don’t let Pride Of Jenni run away with it (literally). So, who will be game enough to give her a run for her money.

I think Major Beel and Zougotcha are the most likely contenders. The likes of Celestial Legend, Fangirl and Ceowulf have all drawn pretty well and I think they will sit just off the lead. It’s not a very big field, so I think most runners will have a fair chance to win this one, as long as they are good enough.

King Charles III Stakes Best Bet - Fangirl

We see Fangirl and Pride Of Jenni again and unsurprisingly they are the two more favoured runners in the market at this stage. It was a bit of a toss of the coin, but I’m giving the edge to Fangirl. Fangirl presents more value in my opinion and is currently going around as the second favourite, with odds of $3.80, thanks to PlayUp.

I liked Fangirl in the race last year when she won and I’m hoping for a back-to-back performance here. Comes into this one with two runs under her belt in the Group One Winx Stakes and the 7 Stakes, finishing third and first, respectively. Both she and Pride Of Jenni are the clear class horses in the race, but there’s just more value with Fangirl at this stage.

Fangirl to win @ $3.80.

King Charles III Stakes Safe Bet - Pride Of Jenni

She is the pre-race favourite for a reason and while I’ve given the edge to Fangirl, I can very easily see Pride Of Jenni win this one, especially if the rest of the field lets her have it her way and she gaps them in the early stages of the race. At the time of writing, Pride Of Jenni has odds of $2.10 to win the King Charles III Stakes, thanks to Bet365.

Pride Of Jenni has had a decent prep so far and is a last-start winner after beating out the competition in the Group Two Feehan Stakes, which included four (yes, just four) runners. Declan Bates retains the ride here and I wouldn’t be surprised if they use the same tactics here that they used in the Feehan Stakes.

Pride Of Jenni (each-way) @ $2.10/$1.30.

King Charles III Stakes Value Bet - My Oberon

My Oberon is tackling this one fourth-up after a long spell, so all the cobwebs should be blown out. Last time out we saw him in the Group One Epsom Handicap, where he finished sixth, 3.2L off the pace. His run in the 7 Stakes was the one that caught my eye though, finishing second to Fangirl.

The two favourites in the King Charles III Stakes may not be at their strongest on wet ground, but it’s not a concern for My Oberon, who won at his Australian debut on a Heavy 8. Proven form lines coming in and at $18 with Dabble, he presents some pretty good value if you ask me.

My Oberon to place @ $3.80.

King Charles III Stakes The Danger - Celestial Legend

I’m a little surprised to see Celestial Legend with double-digit odds, I think he should be more around the $8.00 mark, but we are currently getting odds of $13.50 to win the race, thanks to our friends at QuestBet. He finished sixth in the Group Two Shannon Stakes, but I don’t think that race was suitable for him.

I like that he gets the blinkers on for the first time on Saturday and has had a tick-over trial since that run in the Shannon Stakes. Gets the services of Blake Shinn and if he can get the right breaks at the right time, Celestial Legend has a real shot of causing somewhat of a major upset here.

Celestial Legend to place @ $3.20.

King Charles III Stakes Best Roughie - New Energy

If you’re looking for something to add to wider exotics, I’ve found you a massive roughie. New Energy is currently paying $61 with Bet Right to win the race. Now, I don’t think he can win, but he is certainly worth including in wider exotics, like a First Four, for example. For me, I’ll be playing it safe with a small place bet and we will see what happens.

This European import is my throw at the stumps for the King Charles III Stakes. Put in a decent performance in the Theo Marks Stakes first-up, recording the second-fastest last 200m of the race. He’s had excuses in some of the other races as well, so don’t take his recent results at face value.

New Energy to place @ $10.
