The Everest Preview and Tips 19/10/24

Another week, another epic line-up of races! We see several high-profile races this weekend, including The Everest, which is run at Randwick Racecourse. The Everest is extra special this year as it has just been granted Group One status.

Along with The Everest, there are two other Group One races this weekend, which include the Caulfield Cup and the King Charles III Stakes. That’s not all though, there are two other key races to take place at Randwick Racecourse this weekend, The Kosciuszko and The Silver Eagle

I’ve got Saturday tips here at OnlyRacing for all five of the mentioned races, but this article in particular focuses on The Everest tips. All the slot holders have their runners and I’ve gone through them all to produce my best bets for The Everest. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Race Tempo and Likely Leaders

For The Everest, the rail is in a True position, meaning there is no obvious bias for the race. The Everest should be run at a fairly fast pace and the speed should come from the likes of Storm Boy, who carries a light weight. I reckon Growing Empire will sit just behind him as he cuts across from a wider barrier.

Joliestar, the equal favourite, should get quite an economical run, so we will have to see how that pays off in the closing stages of the rest. The other equal favourite, I Wish I Win, should settle mid-field from the wide barrier. He’ll be looking to stay out of trouble and strike when the time is right.

The Everest Best Bet - Sunshine In Paris

Man, it is a fairly open field for The Everest in 2024. There are a lot of genuine contenders, but I really like the look of Sunshine In Paris, so I’m bypassing the equal favourites for my best bet. In my eyes, Sunshine In Paris has just as much chance of winning the race as the equal favourites do and with odds of $9.00 with PlayUp, I’m getting more value as well.

Hasn’t raced much recently and I think that is perfect as she’ll be fresh as a daisy for this one. She nailed her run first-up, winning the Group Two Sheraco Stakes in mid-September. We saw her again in a trial since then and everything looks good. Jumps from barrier eight and should hopefully stay out of trouble in the opening stages of the race.

Sunshine In Paris to win @ $9.00.

The Everest Safe Bet - I Wish I Win

I Wish I Win is obviously a class horse and it would be silly for me to not include the gelding as my safe bet for The Everest on Saturday. With some bookies, he is the equal favourite with Joliestar, but with Bet365, he is the narrow $5.50 favourite. There are a lot of mixed opinions on I Wish I Win, but I’m on the bandwagon.

He hasn’t seen the winner’s stall so far this prep but has still put in some good performances. After finishing fifth in the Group One Moir Stakes first-up, he finished third in the Group One Manikato Stakes last time out. He enjoys the Randwick track and certainly has to be respected in The Everest.

I Wish I Win (each-way) @ $5.50/$2.25.

The Everest Value Bet - Stefi Magnetica

I reckon at $14 to win with Dabble, Stefi Magnetica presents some pretty good value. She put up a good fight in The Shorts after getting pushed back early, she bravely finished second, just 0.2L off the winner. With an extra 100m, she probably would have won that one and she’ll get that extra 100m here in The Everest.

She is looking to tackle The Everest fairly fresh, which I think will work very well for her. Excellent each-way value is on offer here and it’s just too good for me to pass up on. After winning her first Group One back in June in the Stradbroke Handicap, I think she is on track for potentially another win here.

Dabble
Stefi Magnetica (each-way) @ $14/$4.20.

The Everest The Danger - Joliestar

She’s the equal favourite for a reason! I Think Joliestar is ready to play and she’ll give them something to catch in the closing stages. She is certainly good enough to win this one and has to be considered the main danger in The Everest. The 4YO mare finished third in the Group Two Sheraco Stakes last time out.

In the run before that, she won the Group Three Show County Quality, which is run over the same track and trip. In fact, she is yet to be defeated across 1,200m at Randwick Racecourse! Joliestar is currently paying $6.50 to win The Everest with QuestBet and I think that’s pretty good value.

Joliestar (each-way) @ $6.50/$2.35.

The Everest Best Roughie - Giga Kick

Put in a decent enough effort first-up in the Group Two Premiere Stakes when finishing fourth. I understand while he is currently going around with odds of $13 with Bet Right, but we will get a true reading on how the 2022 winner of The Everest stacks up in this one. He is coming off a long spell, so he’s needed a run or two under his belt to shake the rust out.

He is unloved in the market at the moment, after jumping as the favourite or close to in other recent races. The booking of Mark Zahra is positive and he is jumping from barrier three, so that’s another tick. I’m not convinced he’ll win this, but I do think Giga Kick is good enough for a top-three finish.

Giga Kick to place @ $4.00.
