Doomben Racecourse Preview

Doomben Racecourse is one of the most popular tracks in Queensland and is located just 6km from Brisbane’s CBD. Being one of Queensland’s premier race tracks means it hosts some of the biggest races in the state. It is a favourite with racing fans due to the 10,000 room, which is named after the Doomben 10,000.

During Winter, Queensland’s Winter Racing Carnival takes centre stage, which means you’ll find a lot of Doomben race tips floating around. You might hear Doomben Racecourse referred to as the “Garden Racecourse” due to the gardens that surround the track and the layout of the track itself is a large oval shape.

Doomben Betting Strategy Types

When it comes to your betting strategy, you’ve got a lot of options available. No matter what bookie you bet with (or are thinking of betting with), there will be a whole stack of bet types available. All the best Doomben race tips will cover a range of bet types, so there’s something for everyone.

We could talk about all the different bet types here, but we’ve decided on three in particular that offer something a little unique and can provide a fun betting experience. The three bet types are as follows:

Treble

The Treble bet type is perfect if you’ve found Doomben tips for Saturday that cover tips from multiple races on the card for the day. You’ll actually see heaps of Saturday tips around the Treble because the payout can be quite large if you can land it.

Here, your assignment is to pick the winner from three pre-nominated races on the card at Doomben. If there is a major event on the card, like a Group One for example, that race is likely going to be one of the races you need to pick the winner from.

Exacta

The Exacta isn’t as exotic as the Treble, but it still requires some thinking. If you think you know who will finish first and second in the race (in the correct order), then you should go for the Exacta bet. The payout is decent, especially if your Doomben racing tips for today include one or two roughies.

Remember, with the Exacta bet, you have to pick the top two horses in the correct position. This means that if the horse you picked to finish first ends up finishing second and the horse you picked to finish second ends up finishing first, your bet won’t be successful.

Quadrella

If someone you know lands a Quaddie, you’ll know about it, that’s for sure! The Quadrella (also known as a Quaddie) is the top-tier kind of bet in horse racing and it is quite difficult to pull off because it involves picking the winner of four pre-nominated races on the card at Doomben.

While it may be difficult to pull off, it doesn’t stop people from putting together their Doomben race tips for today that feature a Quaddie bet. To make things easier, you can add more than four runners to your bet, but the more runners you add, the lower the odds will be.

Doomben Racecourse History

The Doomben track is located near Eagle Farm Racecourse, which is one of the other top racecourses in Brisbane. This track underwent a major reconstruction back in 1996 and this included changes to the racing turf and the surrounding structures.

Currently owned and operated by the Brisbane Racing Club, the first race at this track took place in 1933. The main grandstand is split into members and a public stand and features rooms like the Satchel, Chief De Beers, Vo Rogue, 10,000 and Home Return.

Since 1933, there have been multiple owners of Doomben Racecourse. Before the merger between the Queensland Turf Club and the Brisbane Turf Club, the Queensland Turf Club operated out of Eagle Farm Racecourse and the Brisbane Turf Club was operating out of Doomben Racecourse.

Doomben Racecourse Race Distance Guide

At Doomben Racecourse, there are certain race distances and each distance has a specific guide on how the barriers and race in general might play out. We’ve gone through all the common race distances for Doomben and provided a guide on how the barriers and race might unfold.

Distance:Guide:
1,010mThe shortest distance you’ll likely see at Doomben Racecourse and races here start at the end of the back straight. This means there’s only 110m before the final turn, giving inside barriers a fairly sizable advantage.
1,200mAt 1,200m, races commence at the top of the back straight and there is a distance of 300m before the long, sweeping double turn to the home straight. This gives a major advantage to the inside barriers.
1,350mRaces slated at this distance begin in a chute located at the top of the back straight and provide runners with an additional 450m at the beginning of the race before the first turn.
1,650mAnother race that begins in a chute, this time just after the home straight and it leads straight away to the first double turn. Inside barriers usually get the rub of the green here.
2,020mAt this distance, runners begin on the course proper and are on the home straight to start with. The additional distance in this race means the inside barriers don’t have as much of an advantage.
2,200mFor the longest distance races at Doomben, the race begins in a chute at the top of the home straight. This gives runners the whole home straight to settle into their position before the first turn.
