Gosford Betting Strategy Types

Before you jump into things feet first, you must develop a betting strategy on the best bets you’ve found. This usually revolves around understanding and choosing the best bet types for you. There are heaps of bet types, but we’ve decided to focus on a couple in particular that we think you’ll like.

Treble

A Treble bet type is one of the more exotic options and if you’re willing to give it a try, you could be in for a sizable payday if successful. You’ll also see many Gosford racing tips focus on the Treble due to the payout potential.

With the Treble, you need to successfully pick the winner of three consecutive races on the card at Gosford. Seems a bit tricky, we know, but you can make things easier for yourself by adding more than three runners to your bet.

Trifecta

Keeping with the theme of "three", we have the Trifecta! The Trifecta involves picking the horses that you think will finish first, second and third, in the correct order in any given race on the card at Gosford.

Much like the Treble, the Trifecta is popular when it comes to Gosford race tips due to the large payout that is likely if you are successful with this bet type. You can also add more than three runners to your bet, to increase your chances of success.

Quadrella

While you may think landing a Treble or Trifecta is difficult, they both are nothing compared to that of the Quadrella (or Quaddie, as it’s also known). While it is difficult to land this bet type, it is still very popular because of the payout potential and bragging rights, of course.

With a Quaddie, your task is to pick the winner of four different races that occur consecutively on the card at Gosford. Usually, if there’s a major race on the card, that particular race will feature as one of the ones you’ll have to pick the winner from.

Gosford Racecourse History

Operated by Gosford Race Club, racing on the current Gosford Racecourse began back in 1913. The track has undergone multiple changes since then, but it has almost always been known as one of the leading provincial racing tracks in NSW.

We see some of the biggest races each year at the track, which has been known as “The Entertainment Grounds” since 2015. Gosford Racecourse has also seen a recent redevelopment of the Members Grandstand and surrounding area, to the tune of $4.8 million.

The Entertainment Grounds is approved to host no more than 14 major events per year in the infield of the track, which has a capacity of 10,000 for each event. One of the best-ever horses trained at Gosford was Hay List, who competed around the same time at Black Caviar.

Gosford Racecourse Race Distance Guide

One of the many aspects that should be considered in Gosford racing tips is the race distance. The starting point on the track can dictate just how important barriers are. We go through all the main race distances at this track and provide a guide.

Distance:Guide:
1,000mAt 1,000m, runners have a fairly sizable straight before the first and final turn onto the home straight. While the turn is relatively sharp, because there’s so much straight in the beginning of the race, barriers are as critical.
1,100mVery similar to the 1,000m distance races, except the race begins 100m further back on the straight. This gives runners an additional 100m to sort themselves out before the final turn.
1,200mRunners at the 1,200m distance start in a chute 100m further back on the straight compared to the 1,000m distance races. They have the entire back straight to work things out and get in a good position before the only turn.
1,400mAt 1,400m, runners start just before the first of two narrow turns. This therefore gives inside barriers much more of an advantage, but runners still have the entire back straight to work into a better position if needed.
1,600mSimilar to the 1,400m distance races, however, runners begin an additional 200m back on the straight. This gives runners more time to jostle for the best position before the first of two turns.
2,000mAt 2,000m runners begin on the home straight, with enough time to work it out before the first of three turns, the first of which is a wide turn. Due to this, barriers don’t really have as much influence over things.
2,100mSimilar to the 2,000m distance race, except runners being 100m further back on the straight in a chute off the course proper. There is more time to find a good settling position, so barriers aren’t as important.
