Moonee Valley Tips, Race News, Betting and More

Moonee Valley Racecourse Preview

Moonee Valley is one of the most popular tracks in Victoria and you will always see Moonee Valley race tips whenever there is racing action at the track. The track itself is located just 7km from Melbourne’s CBD and features some of the biggest races on the Australian calendar, including a handful of Group One races.

The layout of the track is very unique, forming sort of a rectangular shape and there is only a 173m straight. These factors mean front runners have more advantage and no runner was better at showing off that advantage than Winx, who won four consecutive Cox Plates at the track.

Moonee Valley Betting Strategy Types

When it comes to betting on racing at Moonee Valley, it is more than just choosing the best bookie for the job, it’s also a good idea to develop a proper betting strategy. Most of the time, your betting strategy revolves around the different bet types available.

So, if you’ve found your Moonee Valley tips for Saturday, the next step is to develop your strategy and understand the best bet type for you. We go into detail about a couple of the most popular bet types in this section:

Exacta

An Exacta is an exciting bet type that you’ll see used in many tips for Moonee Valley for today that are going around. If you like more of your exotic tips, then the Exacta is right up your alley and you’ll enjoy playing around with this bet type.

To be successful with your Exacta bet, you need to correctly pick the first two finishers in the race at Moonee Valley, in the correct order. The potential payout is pretty good for an Exacta as well, but it does depend on the odds of the runners you’ve included in your bet.

Multi

Multi bets are another good option because there is so much room for variety here. You can add your Moonee Valley horse racing tips to your Multi on top of other legs and it could even include bets on different sports.

You have freedom when it comes to the number of legs you want to include in your Multi and the more legs you add, the higher your potential payout will usually be. Legs in your Multi can be on events across different days as well, which can extend the suspense, especially if your Multi is still live.

Quadrella

A Quadrella, or Quaddie as it is more affectionately known, is one of the hardest bets to land, but the payout potential is huge. This is why you’ll see so many Moonee Valley quaddie tips around, as every man and his dog would love to say they landed a Quaddie.

With a Quaddie, you have to pick the winner of four consecutive races on the card at Moonee Valley. You can include more than four runners in your bet, to make things easier for yourself, but remember that this will reduce the potential payout.

Moonee Valley Racecourse History

Established in 1883 by William Samuel Cox, Moonee Valley Racecourse has a long and rich history. Cox purchased a farm in 1882 that belonged to John F. Feehan, with the idea of establishing a racetrack.

The track is entirely freehold hand which is owned by a private club, differentiating itself from other popular Melbourne tracks like Caulfield Racecourse and Flemington Racecourse. A major expansion of the facilities at Moonee Valley Racecourse occurred throughout the 1960s.

In the next decade, harness racing moved to Moonee Valley Racecourse after it was relocated from the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds. Now, Moonee Valley Racecourse has first-class facilities and is one of the key go-to tracks in Melbourne.

Moonee Valley Racecourse Race Distance Guide

If you’re looking into Moonee Valley tips for today, those horse racing tips must understand the importance of the race distance and where on the track the race jumps from. There are a few common race distances at Moonee Valley and we walk you through everything you need to know about each of them:

Distance:Guide:
1,000mAt this distance, barriers don’t have much influence and the race starts in a chute off the course proper near the second turn. Runners have a long straight that is diagonal across the middle of the circuit and a wide turn.
1,200mRaces at this distance begin in a chute that feeds runners onto the back straight. There isn’t a lot of time before the first turn, so inside barriers do have more of an advantage here.
1,600mAt 1,600m, runners begin on the course proper just after the first turn and they have three turns to contend with. Inside barriers do have somewhat of an advantage, but it’s not as significant as the 1,200m races.
2,040mHere, runners only have 200m before runners have to contend with the first turn and this therefore gives inside barriers an advantage. Inside runners can find a good position in the field, which can set them up for the race.
2,600mAt 2,600m, runners have 400m of straight before the first of five turns. Due to the length of the initial straight and the fact there are five turns, barriers don’t play as big of a role.
3,000mFor races at this distance, runners start in the same chute as those at the 1,200m distance. Due to the length of the race, barriers don’t have as much significance as runners have plenty of time to fight for the win.
