Friday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley 16/12/22

BEST BET - #6 – Reservoir Dog 
Reservoir dog is one that peaks my interest here, he comes off the back of a reasonably slow win at this distance over similar conditions but he pulled up with a bunch of issues before the race that carried over to the way he raced there and still managed a win. I think drawing inside at the valley, having mcdougall stick for the ride are all bonuses and will be happy to take on the reasonably short So unusual.  

VALUE BET - #8 - Celtic Glory 
Celtic glory looks to be peaking in fitness after a successful campaign so far (1-1-1 in five runs) and looks like it should have won last start when just held up on the turn, still chasing hard to finish on the winners heels and place. Alana kelly sticks, gets in light and draws nicely for the track. 

THE DANGER - #1 – So Unusual 
So unusual is the obvious danger in this race, can’t knock the form and hasn’t done much wrong. He comes off a strong second placing at Sandown in a race he probably should have won over the 1800m in slightly stronger company than this, he seems to be looking for longer and has a serious turn of foot.

BEST BET - #4 – Boss Lady Rocks 
This is a tricky one with a few top chances, however I think if the track is soft enough this looks a good race for Boss lady rocks, who is second up now and strips fitter off the back of a fast time first up run at Pakenham. She’s a winner at the valley and should go well resuming at this track, again sticking to the philosophy of inside runners at the valley, she draws inside and looking for a big showing from the Stubbs stable.

VALUE BET - #8 – Kev’s Girl (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Kev’s girl really likes these conditions and comes off an all the way win under the same distance and conditions here. Holland and chambers are a proven combination with a 25% strike rate and he just looked a bit tired late, should improve in fitness here and draws okay, with decent steering from dean he looks a great shot to back up that win at double figure odds.

THE DANGER - #6 – Mutinous 
Mutinous is the danger for me, He has had an outstanding prep thus far with 2 placings and now 2 consecutive wins at Tatura and most recently the Valley over this distance a couple weeks ago. Seems to have found its peak and stable has found the right set up, if he can cross and lead early I can see him holding these off.

BEST BET - #6 – Philosopher (BEST BET) 
If the inside of the track isn’t to beaten up by the time we come around to this race I can see Philosopher running a big race, again sticking to the philosophy of inside runners and he has shown a lot of early speed in races, the 955 metre seems to be a good shot and backing the tactics at his first start for the Jusufovic camp after taking a few months to train him up properly. 

VALUE BET - #2 – Meteorite 
Meteorite draws next to philosopher and maps for a good run right on the speed, he comes off the back of a forgive run when held up 500 metres out from the post, think the tactics will be tweaked and he will strip fitter second up now. Hoping for a flashy finish with some good steering by the young Mcneil.  

THE DANGER - #3 – Mir 
Mir is the clear danger in the race, coming off the back of a dominant win at mornington and prior to that 2 placings, camp seems to have found the right tactics and the horse has plenty of talent. My only issue is he draws off the track and at this distance it is very important to be close to the rail, However he runs consistently fast throughout the entire race at these distances and this field looks no trickier, Shinn is absolutely flying this season and if anyone can get the run right its him.
