Friday Racing Tips - Sunshine Coast 23/12/22

BEST BET - #9 – Northern Pride - (BEST BET)
Tipping in the maidens again this friday, it hasn’t gone all too well for me lately with my 2nd top selection beating my top selection at both tracks on wednesday but I think that Northern Pride has the makings of quite a talented horse and has the advantage of a few runs under it’s belt over most of this field. Northern Pride most recently ran 5th at Doomben in strong company, he began well there, but sat 2 wide without cover most of the run and faded towards the end. Still showing excellent speed and running a time much faster than the benchmark average. Even in fading, his last 600m is quicker than the rest of this field (those that are not first starters), Jimmy Orman gets back on board and I think he’s found a very winnable race.

VALUE BET - #12 - The Snuggler 
I think that the Snuggler should be peaking now 4th up. He raced as a $3 favourite last time at Dalby when failing to get into the money, was fractious at the gates and bumped during the run so I will forgive on the premise that the stable has improved his manners for this. Before that showed talent when leading and just fading to finish 3rd. Fitter now and steps up in trip, nice gate and I may have something on.

THE DANGER - #6 - Eddy Street 
I am liking what I am seeing a lot from the locally trained Eddy street. Michelle Payne and Nikita Beirmann combine on Eddy Street who has been patiently trialled multiple times here at Sunshine Coast in preparation for his debut. He draws well inside and comes off a recent trial win here over 850 metres. I expect a forward showing from the good gate.

BEST BET - #1 - Deluxe Legend 
Have to put Deluxe Legend on top here. Last prep he won here in style second up when leading them all the way and showing a nice little kick towards the end, fighting hard to keep them at bay. Didn’t resume all that well and was sent back to the paddock, comes back to the races after a half year spell and looks primed following a trial win here 2 weeks ago. The inform Jimmy Orman is on board and he will come to hand quickly running second on the synthetic here when first up last prep. I think in a race without much speed he should find the lead or sit box seat. 

VALUE BET - #5 - Brazetti - (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Brazetti and Lively Lass both strike my interest but I am worried that between both of them drawing barriers off the track and the amount of early speed they have that they may burn each other out. However, Brazetti comes into this with fitness and smarter for a few runs under his belt. He is free running and should have no trouble crossing from the bad draw. I think the key is that he returns to a shorter trip and as such he may have just enough in hand to hold this lot off. If Du Plessis can produce a smart ride he is in with a good shot.

THE DANGER - #4 - Smashing Plates 
Smashing plates has to be respected here, has an excellent first up record and resumes today off a 20 week spell. He won his trial here 2 weeks ago and looked a smart type there, easily holding them at bay and running his own race. He draws decently and has enough early speed to get into a nice position on the speed with cover, without too much pace in this race I think he should show a nice turn of foot late and be running home hard.

BEST BET - #10 - Sacca  - (NEXT BEST)
Sacca does his best work at Sunshine coast and over this distance range. He is managing to hold his form this prep with 2 placings and a win in 4 runs. Most recently he ran 4th at this track and trip but the race was not in his favour at all, when he attempted to run down the leader but others overhauled both him and the leader. That run was still good enough and his win here 3 runs back was impressive. He finds a softer field here and maps to be right up top on the speed where he likes it, I see no reason he can’t take this out, bar finding one better in one or two of these.

VALUE BET - #2 - Good chat 
Can’t ever count out James Orman. He rides for the prominent Healey stable in this race and Good chat comes off a long 49 week spell. He looked to be completely cruising in his 2nd placing trial here 2 weeks ago and is strong first up, placing 2nd last time out at rosehill in metro grade racing. 

THE DANGER - #9 - Tranquil Bay 
Tranquil Bay is another talented horse who is attempting to make the motions through the ranks. He loves this track and trip with 2 wins and a placing in 3 runs here. He comes back from Saturday grade racing at doomben when 3.7L of the winner still managed a quick time there. Before then both runs were similar when producing back to back wins at sunshine coast. The map suggests he will get some cover if Ben Thompson steers him well and if he can get into the clear just before the turn the rest will be up to Tranquil Bay. The firmer ground is a bit of a query for me but this looks a talented horse and I think this will make for an exciting race.

James Orman is having an absolute cracker season up north in Queensland this year, with 54 winners in just over 200 rides he has a 26% strike rate at this track and races for some prominent stables on Friday, getting a nice booking of rides on some good types. I think, to no one’s surprise, he is the frontrunner to take out the TAB jockey challenge on Friday.
