BEST BET - #1 – Coco Rox (NEXT BEST)
Coco rox was just beaten a length racing in a tougher grade and a good field last time out at Gold Coast. Two from three of his wins have come from dry ground and I see him rolling to the top from the decent gate and dictating, holding them off. 

VALUE BET - #6 – Mori’s Press 
Mori’s press just missed last time out as a long price favourite on a soft track at Doomben, ran well into third and was held up twice during that run, when he finally got clear I liked what I saw a lot and 3 weeks prior to that he picked up a soft win at Blackall from which race already has produced another winner. Think hes over the odds in this field and worth a shot.

THE DANGER - #3 – Tilianam 
Tilianam is the danger for me as the map suggests it will be him and Coco rox rolling forward. He should improve sharply from the Tatts classic when racing wide with no cover and then being rolled by Extremist. Free running, fitter and gets a big step up in jockeying with Maloney on board.

BEST BET - #8 - Spellcatcher 
Spellcatcher’s win at flemington last prep looks like he just needs to replicate again to win, sit off the speed and sprint over them seems the path to victory here. He resumed under the Lees stable a month ago at Kembla and whilst he wasn’t in that race I liked what he did in the last 200m behind a fast tempo. He’s got more upside than these in a pretty narrow field, the stable is flying and he will be fitter for this.  

VALUE BET - #6 - Hamlet Von Snitzel  (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Hamlet Von Snitzel comes off an 8 week spell after struggling on a bogged track at Doomben, forgive that. The run before was a great one before flopping at the end and whilst he may need the run of the race here, he gets that from the soft draw. At the bigger odds I think that has been overly accounted for in the price and will decide on race day if I am to have something small on. 

THE DANGER - #5 - Luskin Hero 
Luskin hero had a forgive run last run, prior to that he has two placings prior to make it 2 placings in 3 runs this prep, both in very good times and looked the winner when just finding one better at that most recent placings. Comes into this rock hard fit, jockey is a slight query for me but think the horse has talent and is ready for this.

BEST BET - #1 - Kovalica (BEST BET)
Kovalica is a talented horse that just keeps winning, he was backed into a price that would suggest he was unbeatable last start and lived up to that. He gets a larger track and an extra 100 metres here which are both bonuses for him. Unsure about how much room for improvement he has here but does he need to improve that much to win again? I don’t think so and based on the form he will be in this for the long haul.

VALUE BET - #5 - Cash Me
Cash me has had an incredibly successful campaign, winning fresh at goldcoast when just over an odds on fav and placing at his subsequent two outings since. He looks to prefer the firm ground which he gets here and should be rock hard fit going into this. Benny Thompson is on board which is always a bonus and at the price I think he can run a cheeky race.

THE DANGER - #3 - Tradition 
This is a horse that has a lot of upside and with my thinking that Kovalica is limited in its upside I think this makes Tradition the danger in this race. He comes off a win at Canterbury park against the older horses. He had stayed at the 1900m then after picking up a win prior at Newcastle over the same distance. This stable knows what they are doing and he will relish getting to the 2100m now. Think he should be much shorter.

I’m opting for the early quaddie as well as a trifecta in race 5 this day out at Eagle farm as I like a couple of the early races and think we can pick up a nice payout if some of my outside chances come to fruition. As well as the trifecta in race 5 as I believe there are some stand out selections and a couple outsiders that could run into third.
