Saturday Racing Tips - Flemington Racecourse 14/1/23

Metro grade racing continues for the second weekend of the year at Flemington and there’s a stacked nine race card for us with the feature of the day being the Standish Handicap at 13:08pm. There’s a total of $1.3m available in prize and the track is expected to be a good (4) and the weather is meant to be clear so I expect the track to remain as predicted.

I have outlined below my best bet, next best and roughie of the day as well as a multi and a trifecta to follow for some different bet types throughout the day.

Flemington Race 2 – BM70 – (2000m)

Selections:
#1 - Dunkel (BEST BET) - $2.00
#7 - Soul Choice - $5.00
#2 - Hard To Cross - $7.50
#10 - Kokonotsu – $11.50

BEST BET -  #1 - Dunkel - (BEST BET)
Dunkel is progressing through the grades well and looks to have a bit on these, to be honest he looks like he is going to win some big races this season. The Patrick Payne prospect who was given a half sore back from Coffey at Sandown on Boxing Day but the horse got him out of trouble and bolted up in an impressive display, his first run since Cranbourne Cup Day.

THE DANGER - #7 - Soul Choice
Soul Choice is another who looks like he will be moving onto bigger and better races than this. Made his debut at the races as an odds on fav at Cranbourne when racing well and just outgunned by another smart horse and then went to Terang, staying at the mile and thrashing them 2nd up. Gets out to 2000m now third up and Jordan Childs hops on board.

VALUE BET - #2 - Hard To Cross
Hard to cross is Dunkel’s stablemate and also looks to be quite promising. He ran third behind Dunkel on boxing day but pulled up lame there and picked up some nice wins before racing that day. I think that he will run well and won’t be surprised to see him in the placings.

Flemington Race 4 – BM100 – (2000m)

Selections:
#4 - Right You Are - $2.20
#2 - Spirit Ridge - $6.00
#6 - See Marie (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $10.00
#3 - Swords Drawn - $7.50

BEST BET - #4 - Right You Are
Right You Are has returned to the races firing, picking up back to back wins in his last two runs after a short let up prior. His most recent run was at the Valley where he showed he was genuine, being required to navigate between runners in a close finish to pick up the win. He has great racing style and is in form, will be hard to beat in a similar field.

THE DANGER - #2 - Spirit Ridge
Spirit Ridge is in better form than it suggests on paper. The eight-year-old comes into this third up after a good run into fourth place at Group 3 Level in the Summer Cup at Randwick over this distance. He found the front there at around the 300m mark but didn’t have the fitness to go on with it. He should find a cosy spot in the run and be fitter now and I think this could his race.

VALUE BET - #6 - See Marie - (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
See Marie ran in the Lord Stakes on Boxing Day and ran well behind the smart Nugget. She didn’t like all that speed up top but really has been shouting for a win lately and this race looks doable if she can gold form. The stable is flying at the moment and I think she can take this out.

Flemington Race 6 –  Standish HCP (1200m)

Selections:
#4 - Vespertine (NEXT BEST) - $6.00
#8 - Rose Quartz - $6.00
#1 - Western Empire - $8.00
#3 - Indian Pacific - $7.00

BEST BET - #4 - Vespertine - (NEXT BEST)
The Grahame Begg product is absolutely flying after picking up a dominant win on Cup Day at this track and distance. She showed a serious engine there when firing home and has now been kept cold since. I imagine that being first up here means they are priming her for the Newmarket and she flew in last week’s jumpout. I am siding with her.

THE DANGER - #8 - Rose Quartz
Rose Quartz has done enough in the past for me to give her another chance. She was pretty ordinary at Kensington two runs back and then went on to race in the Christmas stakes where she ran well but ended up third to the impressive and in form Jigsaw. She loves the straight and must be respected back here now and up to the 1200m and I think she has a good chance.

VALUE BET - #1 - Western Empire
Western Empire comes into this first up and I think the Stable is priming him for some bigger races and to remain out of WA this prep. He hasn’t been seen at the races for about 5 months since being sent to the John Leek camp but showed plenty of talent in his first prep, picking up multiple wins and a narrow second placing at Ascot. He has a good first up record, gets a decent jockey booking but more so am interested to see what the stable can produce after working with him for a while.

Jockey Of The Day – Ethan Brown

Ethan Brown has been in exceptional form lately in Victoria and he gets a nice booking of rides for Saturday’s racing at Flemington. I think he has a good chance to pick up a couple winners from his five rides and this early runners look the goods. He is racing primarily for the dominant Maher and Eustace camp on Saturday. I have outlined his rides below:

R1 - #8 - Veecee - $4.50
R4 - #4 - Right You Are - $2.20
R6 - #9 - Umgawa - $10.00
R7 - #8 - Saint of Katowice - $20.00
R9 - #17 - Miso - $8.50

Multi Tips For Flemington Racecourse

This week at Flemington I have opted to go for a place betting multi as I would generally do for the bigger trickier races, this is because often the runners I select in these races are at bigger odds and are less of a “sure thing” bet so we can de risk by taking a place multi and still grab some value as there are three legs multiplied together.

Follow below for a fun bet to track over the card

R2 - #1 - Dunkel - WIN $2.00
R4 - #2 - Spirit Ridge - PLC $1.90
R6 - #8 - Rose Quartz - PLC $2.10

Total Odds = $8.17
$50 stake = $408.97 return!

Best Promotions for Flemington Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Friday’s racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
