Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Lakeside 21/12/22

BEST BET - #12 - Oceanique - (NEXT BEST)
Going to side with Oceanique here over the #1 Choquant and #3 Fretta. Most recently, was 2nd at this track over the 1400m 2 weeks ago, raced just a bit too keenly but will be better for the experience and fitter third up, maps to roll forward and in a race without much speed I’m happy to be on. The stable knows what they’re doing with a 23% strike rate here in the last 12 months.

VALUE BET - #13 - Fretta 
Another horse I am very excited to see is Fretta from Price and Kent camp. Having its first start at the races today and hasn’t been in any trials. However has 2 jump outs, most recently looked very exciting when coming from last to third weaving through on the inside of a few horses late, looking to have had some in hand. That was a jumpout at 1200 metres. Kah is on, gets in light and draws well.

THE DANGER - #1 – Choquant 
Choquant is the other main selection for me, he failed to fire last start as an odds on favourite at geelong first up but showed promise there. He was held up on the straight after going hard late and probably should have got into the placings. Maps to do similar here but looks like he may just want a bit further based off last run and last campaign. Ethan Brown is in great form at Sandown however and I still find Choquant well placed in this race.

BEST BET - #6 – Ultimate Kiss - (BEST BET)
Ultimate kiss rates on top here for me and I’ll make him my best of the day. He’s running the fastest average last 600 and fastest average rating times across this field and is screaming to break through for a win. Comes into this rock hard fit after a campaign of 4 placings in 5 runs. Most recently third at this track and distance on the same ground where he ran well. That was with Jamie mott on, Shinn was actually the winner in that race. Comes into this under the same weight and gets shinn on now and in a softer field I am keen to be on him.

VALUE BET - #9 – Abu Simbel 
Abu Simbel is a horse I have a lot of time for. Comes off a win at TAB Werribee park over the 1400m in softer company than this when storming home late. Jamie Kah hops on now and has an incredible 36% strike rate for this trainer. He gets in light and steps up in trip which are bonue and if he can cross early will not be far away at all in the run.

THE DANGER - #5 – Mere Fancy 
Mott steps off Ultimate kiss and hops onto Mere Fancy. Mere Fancy is the danger for me, he comes off a solid run at the valley, which is not the easiest track when finishing a length back from the winner in tough company. Has been running fast times and placed 2nd at his first outing this campaign when showing a great turn of foot. He looks suited in this field and look for him to be running home hard late.

BEST BET - #10 – Crimmo 
Struggling to see why Crimmo can’t replicate the win from last time out at Ararat. Most recently, wound up on the straight at Ararat and stormed home, drawing clear of the field in the final 100 metres. The stable is astute and clearly thinks he is suited to the extra 100 metres. John Allen sticks, weight stays the same, track conditions should be similar to his last run and this horse looks a smart type. 

VALUE BET - #7 – Trading post  - (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Trading Post has to be in this. He ran a great second at Cranbourne first up after sitting deep and back in a larger field than this before being sent to the paddock for 9 weeks. Upon return he ran over the 1300 at Geelong when third to Harbin and Feudal empire. The form from that is reading nicely with 2 subsequent winners from that race and I think with Shinn retaining the ride they have selected this race for him carefully to pick up a win. 

THE DANGER - #4 – Place of Gold 
Place of gold will be the on topper here for many and I understand why. Looks to be a smart horse, coming off a fast run here just over a month ago when just jammed between runners, picking up late and clearly looking for longer. Kah retains the ride, weight stays the same and finds a much softer field here than the likes of Vermentino and Starlea that he was in company of last time out.

Back to back weeks I'm sticking with the inform Shinn, he gets a stack of rides tomorrow at Sandown and has been bringing success wherever he goes this year. He also retains a number of rides on horses that look to have promise and that is always a tick for me.

There's quite a few runners I like early and with a lot of smaller fields I think there is some value on the place betting, combining these runners together is a great way for us to generate a lot of value. It is also a nice way to spread the risk from the straight win betting, plus its fun!

I have a trifecta for tomorrow at Sandown as I am quite confident in my top selections for race 1 and think we have a good chance of the higher odds runners getting into the top placings.
