Wednesday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm 4/1/23

BEST BET - #2 - Montabot 
Montabot rates a fair bit on top of these and I think he finds quite a winnable race here. He won at first outing at Ipswich, surprising punters at big odds. Then went to the Gold Coast when he just had a bit of bad manners and then was bumped later in the run, I think I can forgive that. He showed to still be holding form last time out and I think he can take home a rails hugging win at the shorter trip here.

THE DANGER - #8 - Aqua Alta 
Aqua Alta showed a fair bit of talent last prep, picking up 2 back 2 back wins, was then spelled for 15 weeks before coming back to the races at Doomben when 2nd of 10 in a pretty talented field. Stepped up in competition after that and ran a solid 4th placing, steps up in distance now and looks suited here.

VALUE BET - #7 - Jubai Pride (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Jubai Pride has placed in his last 4 runs and is screaming to break through. He gets another chance here to do so and really is showing improvement from run to run. Last run he really stepped up when sprinting hard late but was outsprinted by what looks to be some smart types. I think he has a good shot here at the odds.

BEST BET - #3 - Durnstein - (NEXT BEST)
Durnstein resumes here and draws to do no work. He maps to lead and seems to be the makings of a really good horse. He has picked up multiple wins already in his short career and the last win was really quite impressive despite being a short favourite. First up is the query but he placed last run first up and also won after a 9 week break from the races, its a 15 week break he resumes off this time but I expect the stable to have him ready.

THE DANGER - #2 - Beast Mode 
Beast Mode is undefeated in two runs in his career and seems to be progressing nicely, both runs have been at the sunny coast over the 1000m on the good going and finds the same trip/conditions here and steps up to BM68 grade but this really doesn’t look much harder for a horse that is progressing well.

VALUE BET - #11 - Minks Star 
Minks Star resumed at Doomben when wide throughout and got no help. She looked to need that run from a fitness and experience perspective and generally makes sharp improvements second up. Rates highly with Thornton aboard and wouldn’t be surprised to see her in the placings.

BEST BET - #5 - Zavaboom - (BEST BET)
Zavaboom is racing outstandingly and is screaming for a win. Has come 2nd in all 4 of his last 4 runs but just keeps finding one better. The winner and him have gapped the rest and ran good times in both of his most recent outings and I think with the soft draw and Wilson Taylor on board he can find a good spot off the speed and run them home late.

THE DANGER - #1 - King Kapa 
Sticking with the Gollan stable as my danger as well, they really have been in form this season and Tony knows what he is doing over these distance ranges. He won last time out at Doomben over 100m more and ran well above his class there. Meets a better field here but Maloney jumps on board and has a 27% strike rate for Gollan.

VALUE BET - #3 - Fastconi 
Fastconi resumes here after a pretty unsuccessful prep last campaign but was racing often on bog tracks and doesn’t look suited on that ground. I back the Waller stable to have him right for this and the trials indicate as much with 2 trial wins in 3 runs and with the last being a smart win with plenty in hand to Brookspire who is also a smart type.

I think he has a chance to pick up all 3 winners as he races under Chris Waller for 2 rides and Tony Gollan for 1. I have outlined them below:

For my multi I have opted to go for my best runners to place together in a multi to collateralise against some of my best bets as there are a lot of close top selections for me so between betting the top selection and having the 2nd top to place I think we have a good chance of making some money.

I have gone with a trifecta at Eagle Farm this week as I think that the top 3 rate a fair bit on top of the rest of the field in race 6 and particularly the runners who I believe will compose the top 2 in the race. I think we will get a bit of value here with some bigger odds runners who can run into third but overall seek to keep our combos tight.
